We live in Oahu but always stop at Hana Hou in Na’alehu and love it. I tried the papaya salad the last time and it blew my mind….not the typical papaya salad lol! We love the bake goods and the pizza is to die for. The staff is super friendly and accommodating and the ambiance is artsy and funky ….100% recommended!
Ahuihou!
Very disappointing experience. You’re required to order and pay at the front before sitting down, which we did. After waiting 30 minutes, someone finally came over to tell us they didn’t have the ingredients needed to make the food we had already ordered and paid for. We asked for a refund, and it took another 10 minutes for them to figure out how to process it. On top of that, they still charged us for the coffee (which is a bit sleazy but fine since we consumed it) but they didn’t even refund the tip, even though our food was never made and you have to pour your own coffee (costing $26.75 in total after the refund). Can you believe that? Three cups of coffee, waiting for 30 min to not get food and then barely even an apology from the waiter, all for $26 dollars!
If you’re out of ingredients, maybe tell people before taking their money and making them wait half an hour. Would not come back, I’m sure there are other places nearby that won’t steal tip money and can make your food quicker.

We ordered a Supreme pizza online which states it comes with pepperoni. We added on and paid extra for sausage and ham and did not receive any pepperoni on the pizza at all. Big Disappointment. We called to let them know the pizza was missing pepperoni and was told it does not come with pepperoni. We told them their online menu clearly says "pepperoni". By the way, how can you call a Supreme Pizza supreme with no pepperoni? I'll be sure Not to order Supreme pizza again.

Love supporting local spots while visiting and I had a nice experience here! Only feedback I have is that the busser tried to take my plate while I was actively eating (like hand on the plate, grabbing bread, and chewing), and when I told him I was still eating, he left the plate but took my fork so I couldn’t finish my meal.. then after I had eaten all I could without a fork and put it to the side, he asked my bf if I was done.. which was a bit odd and felt degrading. I’m certain it was just an unintentionally awkward moment but it did make me uncomfortable. The meat on the prime rib French dip sandwich was also 50% raw meat and 50% yummy meat, and a bit chewy/gritty compared to others I’ve had. Oh but the Mac salad was sooo good, I didn’t get to finish it without a fork but there wasn’t much left so it’s ok. Overall a 4/5 star experience and definitely still recommend, just leaving this feedback for the owners :)

Hana Hou Restaurant was one of our favorite meals on the Big Island! Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The garlic shrimp was packed with flavor, the loco moco was rich and comforting, the burgers were juicy, and even the sandwiches were fantastic. Every plate that came to our table was delicious.
The service was just as impressive. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and made us feel like family from the moment we walked in. The restaurant has a relaxed local atmosphere with beautiful artwork throughout, making it a great place to sit back and enjoy a meal.
Whether you're traveling with family or just looking for an authentic Hawaiian meal, Hana Hou Restaurant is absolutely worth the stop. We will definitely be back the next time we're on the Big Island! 🌺🍔🍤🍛
