Three of us ate dinner here on July 4th. We got a same day reservation. I had the soup of the day, which was a local onion soup. I had them omit the bread to make it gluten-free. It had good flavor but was less meaty than French onion broth. For my main dish, I shared the rack of lamb with a friend. It came with fingerling potatoes and carrots. We asked to put the coffee demi glace on the side. I drank sparkling water. One friend had a Caesar salad. The other had a two fish special. The lamb was cooked just right. The view was beautiful. I appreciate al dente vegetables, but these seemed nearly raw. It was after sunset when we dined. The view was pretty dark, a nice change from the light pollution of the mainland U.S. The service was very accommodating for my gluten sensitivity. She was also friendly and knowledgeable about the specials.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience left such a bad taste that I feel compelled to warn others.
My husband, our 1-year-old daughter, and I visited Plantation House around 4:45 PM during our Maui vacation. We specifically wanted to enjoy the beautiful views over coffee and drinks before heading back to our hotel. The restaurant was far from full, and when we requested a window table, no one asked whether we intended to order dinner or informed us that those tables were reserved exclusively for full-service dining.
We were seated, ordered a cappuccino, a mocktail, and were served complimentary bread. My mocktail arrived around 5:00 PM. Just as we were settling in, our server asked for our dinner order. We explained that we had come only for drinks and planned to order something from the kids’ menu for our daughter’s dinner.
Within a minute, a host came to our table and bluntly informed us that we either had to order a full dinner or finish our drinks by 5:15 PM. At that point it was already around 5:05 PM, and my husband’s cappuccino hadn’t even arrived yet. We were being told to finish drinks that hadn’t even been served!
When we pointed this out, we were told our only option was to move to the bar area because a kids’ meal “didn’t count” as dinner. We had no choice but to pack up all of our belongings, move a settled 1-year-old, and relocate halfway through our visit. Anyone with a toddler knows what an unnecessary hassle that is.
To make matters worse, there wasn’t even a line of guests waiting for our table. No one was immediately seated there after we moved. We simply wanted to enjoy our drinks, appreciate the view for a short while, and leave. Instead, we were made to feel like we were somehow unwelcome because we weren’t spending enough money.
Once we moved, we were placed at the only bar table without table settings. My husband’s cappuccino finally arrived around 5:10 PM, and after our daughter’s meal arrived we had to ask separately for napkins and silverware because none had been provided.
This entire situation was completely avoidable. If the restaurant has a policy that window tables are reserved for guests ordering full dinners after a certain time, communicate that before seating people, not after they’ve ordered and received half of it.
What bothered me most wasn’t the policy itself. Restaurants are free to manage their tables however they choose. It was the execution. We were embarrassed in front of other diners, inconvenienced for no good reason, and made to feel as though we didn’t deserve to sit there because our order wasn’t expensive enough.
Plantation House has a beautiful setting, but hospitality is about making guests feel welcome. Unfortunately, this experience was the exact opposite. We left feeling humiliated rather than valued.
I cannot recommend this restaurant based on the service we received.

Dinner reservations were set. We arrived to have to wait 35 mins at the bar. Not a big deal so we enjoyed a couple of cocktails. After selecting the Rib eye with a expectation of a fabulous steak n mash potatoes. The steak arrived looking like a flat iron steak with the mash potatoes all spread all over my plate. The presentation was ridiculous. The plate should have been addressed before it arrived. The dining experience was lacking from start to finish. Our service was led by five or six different staff. No one cared to follow up until it was a time to push deserts. I addressed the presentation with our server to no avail. 72 dollars to a rib eye was a complete joke of a meal. Disappointed to say the least and would never go back. Save the follow up as the management just wants to turn tables and it shows. 👎🏿

This is the 3rd restaurant we tried on the island. We were SO disappointed by Duke's and Miso Phat. My husband just started making us food in the room because it wasn't worth paying for anything. We tried Plantation House at someone's recommendation, and it was so good. We are trying to eat there the rest of our trip. It is GORGEOUS and the food is so good.

This restaurant is incredible! The views over the golf course are amazing and the actual restaurant itself feels like a magical escape. We had breakfast here and the pancakes were to die for with a caramel sauce and bananas. We also had the savoury plate which had beautiful sourdough eggs and Italian sausage with a side of breakfast potatoes despite this restaurant being of the highest standard and quality. The price of the food was extremely reasonable. we can’t wait to come back again and highly recommend others.
