Great place to shop, the prices are a bit expensive but everywhere in Hawaii is expensive 🤙🏽

It’s a scam. Safeway advertises watermelon for members at $6.74 but they only show watermelon at $1.99 lbs and the smallest when weighed is over $10.00.? Where’s the $6.74 per watermelon for the members? I looked all around and found NONE.

Every time you shop here management walking around without any commonsense or sense of urgency which I don’t care however open the rubish cash registers have at least more then on register open!
Not sure how store management don’t see paying guests are hurting just standing in line.

This is the store to buy meat. (Walmart has a small selection.) They also have a decent bakery and is cost effective. Center isle bread is expensive when compared to the bakery. The pharmacy area is fairly small but has most basics. In general, Safeway is a one-stop store for groceries in Kona.

I spend approximately $500 a week at this Safeway—roughly $26,000 a year—and after today's experience, I'll be taking my business elsewhere whenever possible.
I stopped in to buy dessert while waiting for my dinner order from another restaurant. The bakery was still open, yet I stood at the counter for approximately 15 minutes with no employee anywhere in sight. I finally had to call the store from inside the building before someone came over.
Assistant Manager Tony eventually arrived. When I asked if anyone was working the bakery, his response was, "I don't know." He then said they "might be on break." When I explained I'd already been waiting 15 minutes, he simply replied, "Their breaks are 15 minutes." There was no apology, no acknowledgment of the inconvenience, and no attempt to make things right.
When I told him I would be contacting corporate because of both the wait and his attitude, he ended the conversation by saying, "This conversation's ended. I'm no longer talking with you." That is completely unacceptable behavior from someone in management.
To make matters worse, there were birds inside the bakery prep area perched on bakery racks and trays. I took photos because seeing birds where food is prepared is a serious food safety concern.
I ended up spending nearly $80 at Safeway, and because of the unnecessary delay, the $60 dinner I had ordered from another restaurant was cold by the time I picked it up.
I've been a loyal customer for years, but if this is the level of customer service and sanitation Safeway is willing to accept, then they can lose my $26,000 a year in business. Living on the Big Island means we don't have many grocery options, but that shouldn't be an excuse for treating customers this way. Safeway needs to do much better.
