Store itself is fine. Clean, well-stocked. Good deals. Friendly staff and helpful people overall.
ONE EXCEPTION - There's this one staff member that works at the self check out area, who seems to always be irritated and annoyed. We've seen him argue with customers, showing an attitude when the "help" light goes off, and worse off, reprimanding customers for not knowing how to use the app or holding up the line. We saw him raise his voice to a mother with a young child today who struggled with clipping deals. We were standing next to this ohana and the mother was mentioning something about the deals not working (or something similar). He lectured them and constantly talked over the mother. Poor child was looking at this staff in horror. We smiled at the child just to make her feel better. No reason for this staff member to be so irked and raise his voice at them. This staff member then turned around called the other customer "annoying" because her light went off though she didn't need help.
Similar encounters happened to us before but we kinda brushed it off like he was having a bad day when he gave us an impatient attitude. But given that we are regulars and live in the area, and have seen this happen so many times with different people, it's probably worth mentioning- hoping that someone from management can see this and give this guy some feedback.
Short, dark complexion, Asian dude. Intense looking. Loud. Works pm shift closer to late afternoons and early evenings.
We see him in the self check out counter all the time. Get some training and be professional. Your customers aren't your punching bag! Maybe he should take on another role that's not customer facing.

OMGosh. I don't know WHY I keep coming here.
They have a continual ongoing problem ordering and keeping enough stock, whether the item is on sale or not. Today it was watermelon, Greek yogurt and mandarins. (You are out of mandarins? AGAIN?! They aren't even on sale this week!)
The convenience and loyaty of shopping in my own neighborhood is grossly overshadowed by the inconvenience and aggravation of having to stop elsewhere b/c Manoa is out of stock. Are they at the bottom of someones list? Or what?!
Beretania will have stock...Kapahulu will have stock. Foodland and Times will have stock., WHY OH WHY is it SO hard for Manoa. Honest to Pete!!
Its not like I haven't (more politely than not) whined to management and staff for over a year now. And I can't be the only one. Many are too polite to say something, but I host guests and I/we spend a good deal of money here.
So I'm done trying to shop here, I regret to say...unless or until they correct the problem...and notify me that its fixed.
Bye bye Manoa Safeway.
Fair warning, not only do I host, but I am concerned enough with THEIR convenience and relaxation to steer them clear.

The service at Manoa Safeway is always good for a smile and welcome with the cashier. Today was like no other and I found today a Friday that I could take advantage of two items California sushi and chicken tenders.

Another standard Safeway. This one seems better maintained than others. Higher end clientele maybe.
