The good - nearby parking and dog friendly patio. The bad - food was mediocre at best. Plate came out room temperature. Ordered crab Benedict - crab cake was tasteless, dry and barely warm. Eggs were overcooked with hard centers. Hollandaise sauce was tepid and bland. Just sad all around. Don't put something on the menu if you can't serve it properly. Gave most of it to the dog, his standards are lower than mine...;)

There are few things more disappointing than a place with a legendary reputation that serves a breakfast you wouldn't wish on someone you actually like. Jax at the Tracks has the kind of pedigree that makes you walk in expecting something memorable. Featured on *Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives*, I figured I was in for honest, comforting food done right. Instead, I spent over an hour waiting for a meal that looked tired before it even hit the table. The English muffins were stale. The jelly had dried out like it had been sitting on the table since breakfast yesterday. The eggs were cooked so poorly you'd think nobody in the kitchen had ever cracked one before. The corned beef hash was especially offensive—not just because it tasted bad, but because it looked absolutely nothing like the picture that sold it. It was an unappetizing mess. Then came the service—or rather, the lack of it. Once the food was dropped off, we may as well have become invisible. No one came back to ask how things were. No refill, no "Is everything okay?", nothing. By the time someone finally addressed the problem, the experience was already beyond saving. To their credit, they removed my entrée from the bill. That was the right thing to do. But it doesn't give me back the hour I spent waiting for a breakfast that wasn't worth eating. Ironically, the best thing that crossed our table was the Bloody Mary. It was well made, balanced, and the only item that lived up to any expectation. Restaurants earn reputations one plate at a time, and they lose them the same way. Hype can get people through the door once. Good food and attentive service are what bring them back. Unfortunately, Jax at the Tracks delivered neither. I came expecting a destination-worthy breakfast. I left wishing I'd stopped at a diner with no TV fame at all.

By far the worst food I have ever received in the area. I ordered the chicken sandwich with no slaw or pickles, they put the slaw and pickles on it allowed the chicken to get soggy from the juices then took it off and left it all over the plate and served me the sandwich the fries were cold and soggy. I guess that explains why this is the only place without a wait time to eat in town. Nice atmosphere though.

Battered fries and onion rings are adequate but not crispy enough. Weak coffee. Those who like a cream or vinegar based coleslaw should avoid this one at all costs: mostly dry shredded cabbage, a few shredded carrots, no vinegar, no mayo or cream and lots of dried oregano. Never seen that before. Yuck! Service sucks. Sufficient # of wait staff but they don't make eye contact or respond to waiving of both arms.

While visiting Truckee for the first time, we were excited to try Jax at the Tracks after it was highly recommended to us. We loved the idea of the old-school diner atmosphere and the great reviews we had read. We arrived around 11:10 a.m. and waited a few minutes because no one was at the host stand. When the host finally came over, they didn’t seem very welcoming. They quietly cleaned off a table and directed us to sit without much interaction. Unfortunately, the service was extremely slow from there. We waited about 30 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order, and another 15–20 minutes before our food order was taken. Our meals finally arrived around 12:30 p.m. Everyone else in my party enjoyed their food, but my experience was disappointing. I ordered a medium-well steak, and it came out extremely overcooked, so tough that I couldn’t chew it. I normally don’t send food back, but I had no choice. The replacement steak was cooked to the correct temperature, but it had a strong burnt flavor that made it inedible. To the restaurant’s credit, they removed my meal from the bill, which I appreciated. However, by that point we didn’t have enough time to order something else because we had plans 30 minutes later. I ended up leaving hungry after spending well over an hour waiting for a meal I couldn’t eat. The long wait also meant we missed out on walking around downtown Truckee before our next activity, which was something we had been looking forward to. On top of that, the restaurant was extremely hot inside, it was actually more comfortable outside. I can see why people enjoy the food, as the rest of my party had good meals, but between the slow service, the issues with my order, and the amount of time it took, our first experience was disappointing.
