Always has lines. One checker mentioned they constantly threaten to fire them all and have self check out only. Meat department has lots of waste and rotting meat. Missing prices. Expensive. Im sure they violate labor laws too

DO NOT SHOP HERE. This has become one of the worst Safeway stores in California. Shelves are consistently empty, product selection is poor, and basic items are often out of stock. Employees are clearly stretched too thin, yet customers are left waiting in long checkout lines while multiple registers remain closed. To make matters worse, customers are charged for paper bags that don't even have handles. That's unacceptable. North Tahoe deserves better than this. Our community relies on this store, especially now that grocery options are limited. Safeway needs to invest in adequate staffing, improve inventory, and provide the level of service this community deserves. Safeway: Please fix this store. This is unacceptable for North Tahoe.

We went to Tahoe City Safeway to pick up a few items on a Friday morning in June. There were very few parking spots and the store was very crowded with lines that didn't seem to move for some reason. The pace of the checkers was on vacation mode. There were shelves that were empty. I'd hate to see the store during a busier time!

The worst grocery shopping experience you'll have. Jewelry store prices with next to nothing inventory, 1 open register (and never more), and a parking lot that makes every trader Joe's look like a modern marvel. Placer County and Safeway collectively screwed the community with this place.

Safeway closed one of only 2 grocery storesfor over 2 years to rebuild a "new and better safeway." Keep in mind i have never even thought of writing a review about a grocery store. However, the "new" safeway in Tahoe City hands down the worst grocery store ever, possibly world wide. Made isles so narrow two carts cannot pass by one another. Shelves so narrow only 3 items total can be placed for each grocery item, so they never have inventory of anything. The store is so small and isles so narrow, they can't re-stock anything, because 1 cart cannot pass if they try to put anything else on the shelves. No parking spots available, with a traffic pattern that I think no one ever thought of. 1/2 the amount of products carried than the previous store and the previous store was supposedly smaller. The main entry point walks directly into where zero space exits when lines form. Since they employ no checkers, lines are always there regardless if it is busy. I also feel bad because the staff is great, but they have been given a store that was designed by, I can't even come us with an insult, it just couldn't have any thought, data or planning. They put good staff in a spot to fail every single day. Safeway is helping to destroy my town and community, now being the only grocery store in town and providing half of the products that you cannot buy because the shelves are so small they cannot stock inventory. "Oh, 3 people bought bread today. I guess you have to wait until tomorrow, to see if you are one of the 3 lucky people who get to buy bread again tomorrow". If I could rate safeway negative stars I would. They also deed restricted the other white elephant they left in our small town so no other grocery store can compete with the worst designed safeway in the world. I cannot imagine what goes on at corporate headquarters if this is what they provided after two years of planning and build out. The worst grocery store in the world. My first and last review of a grocery store because no one in thier right mind, could ever design a store this poorly and without thought. A 3 year old would have better sense, and more clear thought than the safeway brass who designed this store. I simply cannot comprehend who could possibly justify anything positive about this store. I now have to drive 45 minutes to buy groceries when safeway is 4 minutes away because safeway has created the worst grocery store in an effort to destroy my community. Do yourself a favor, get groceries anywhere else prior to Tahoe City and save your self the frustration.
