Almost didn’t go because of the reviews, but it was great. Shelves were full, they even had sushi, had some of the cheapest and widest liquor selections I’ve seen in a grocery store, a wide selection of food and groceries, and travel sunscreen

I was shocked that such a tiny piece of cheesecake cost ELEVEN DOLLARS!!!! It’s worth $3.50 at most, but definitely not $11. Are you guys out of your minds? What are you charging $11 for?!
So a whole cake made up of 8 pieces like this would cost $90? For that kind of money, I could order a huge custom-made cake! $11 is what you’d expect to pay for a dessert at a restaurant, not at a regular grocery store. This is absolutely ridiculous!!!

This new Safeway is HORRIBLE! In the 40 years I've been coming up Tahoe City has always had two grocery stores. Now with even more people visiting were down to one grocery store. That doesn't make sense. The aisles are super narrow, they're always out of everything, parking is a mess because it's being used by the rafters across the street. The county/City really need to do something to get a second store back in the old Safeway building, but the Safeway corporation has the lease on the building and won't allow a new grocery store. This is just wrong.

I thought that the old Safeway was bad, empty shelves, unpacked pallets blocking the aisles but the new one is worse. Ugly remodel, the flow and product placement doesn’t make sense, empty shelves all over again. I feel as if it is in a third world country .
In addition, at check out, when the checker was packing the bag, she threw, and I mean “tossed” the soft sandwiches and bread in first, cans and jam on top. That is a breach of grocery packing 101 that most children even know. Perhaps some customer service training might help or Bring back Save Mart!!

Yesterday there was a power outage in Tahoe City. We arrived at Safeway to purchase some picnic lunch since the restaurants were closed. We were greeted by staff at the door who explained that the power was out, but they could still accept cash or credit card payments for food. I grabbed a couple of sandwiches from the deli and was looking for some chips or trail mix when a manager approached me and said "the power is out. You have to leave the store. I'll take those." She grabbed my 2 sandwiches and walked behind me up the aisle towards the door. There are many people currently in line to pay for groceries. I would have happily paid and left with my sandwiches had that been an option for me. I walked out and called a friend who was in the store and told her to get in line quickly. She did and managed to get her lunch. I have been shopping in this town for over 30 years (granted this store was Lucky's and then Savemart for most of those years.) It's not like we have any choice for local shopping anymore, but when I can get my food elsewhere, I will. I understand the numerous concerns with power outages and having shoppers still in the store, however it was handled so rudely, inconsistently and inappropriately.
