  We went for dinner. The fried rice was absolutely amazing. Every gain of rice was coated with rich flavors. The African curry was rich (but we had to order the rice separately). Unfortunately, the grilled chicken was quite disappointing. The meat was dry and had no flavor except when using the sauce. The Thai tea pudding dessert was ok. I would hope the pudding part is bigger than the boba part like actual boba tea and especially because of its pricing. Overall, Cobi’s did not live up to my expectations for a Michelin guide restaurant.

  Was very excited looking forward to trying this restaurant for a while. Arrived on time and seated promptly indoors. It was a warm day and did not seem to be any air conditioning inside, so it got very stuffy and uncomfortable combined with long wait time. We were at the table for almost two hours and most of the time waiting on our server to take our order or check on missing items, waiting to get the check then waiting to take our payment. It was nice time spent catching up but quite warm and the service was not up to the standard I was expecting from the great reviews. The food was excellent although the two salads available were both sold out and only found out after we ordered them. I’m hoping it was just an off day and we were both disappointed for the price point, as the experience did not live up to the hype. I would like to try dinner sometime.

  Let me start off by saying the staff was lovely and friendly. The place is really beautiful and cute. But I don’t know how this place got these ratings. I tried all the vegan options. The samosas (curry puffs) were good but why did we get rid of chutney? And used ketchup??? The dal was mediocre and the beans were undercooked and hard. The noodles dish was overly deep fried with an odd flavor pallette and the African peanut soup was oily dense and had a bad intense flavor. I’m never this picky but I couldn’t believe the food was so bad and got such good ratings. I was excited to try it and was very disappointed. It was really heavy heavy and gave me and my friend a tummy ache - probably the undercooked beans.

  Cobi’s is a great restaurant for a special occasion in Santa Monica. Our awesome wait staff headed by Alberto and ably assisted by Pancho made the dinner extra special. We had the shrimp, salmon, and papaya salad appetizers. All great but the shrimp was surprisingly delicious. We then had the branzino, short rib, and butter chicken curry which were really good. At Alberto’s recommendation we had the special, fried rice with stake to round out the meal. What a treat! Strawberry shaved ice for dessert was the perfect ending, refreshing and not overly sweet. We will definitely be back!

  What a wonderful experience at Cobi’s! From the moment Jip welcomed me in and asked if I had ever been there before, she immediately asked if I had any food allergies. I have a severe allergy to shrimp and lobster, and I really appreciated how seriously she took it. I came in with a few recommendations of dishes I wanted to try (courtesy of my AI travel buddy, Charlie 😂), and Jip walked me through each one. She explained that one had a risk of cross-contamination and wasn’t worth taking the chance, and unfortunately another one I really wanted to try was only available during brunch. She then helped me choose dishes that were both safe and perfect for one person. I started with the kingfish, which Jip recommended, and I am so glad I listened to her. It was incredibly fresh, light and delicate, with a subtle burst of lemon-lime flavor that was almost like summer on a plate. So different and absolutely delicious. For dinner I had the butter chicken with roti, which was rich, warm and flavorful and such a great contrast to the lightness of the kingfish. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere and patio are beautiful, the food was excellent, but Jip truly made my experience. She was sweet, attentive, knowledgeable and genuinely cared about making sure I had a great and safe meal. Traveling alone, those little interactions can make an evening feel especially welcoming. Thank you, Jip, for making my first dinner in Santa Monica such a memorable one. I will definitely be back, especially during brunch because I still need to try that crispy rice salad! 😂 Highly recommend Cobi’s!
