I’m incredibly frustrated with the customer service and lack of consistency at this location. I have come to this store three separate times to send money overseas using Western Union and never had an issue.
Today, I was suddenly told that I needed to provide my physical Social Security card to send my transaction. Mario claimed this has always been their policy. However, I have previously sent well over that amount three times before without ever being asked for a Social Security card. I even had my official passport on me today, and they refused to accept it.
It is clear the staff here is mismanaged, untrained, and completely inconsistent with how they enforce rules. I am not asking for much, just a reliable transaction. My family overseas relies on these funds, and because of this store's incompetence, I wasn't able to get them the money they need today.
If you need to send a Western Union transaction anywhere near $3,000, don't bother coming to this Safeway—unless you feel like carrying your Social Security card around with you. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else that actually trains their employees properly.
Edit: The owner replied with a generic cookie-cutter response asking me to fill out a form on their website. The issue isn't a website form; it's the lack of training and inconsistent policies at the San Ramon store that impacted my family. Your response is purely for public show so that other people browsing Google think Safeway "cares" and is handling it. Trust me people, don't waist your time here.

I was on my way to a wake on Memorial Day weekend, and I stopped in to grab a card. I don’t like to bother anyone, but I needed to borrow a pen and a piece of tape. Every employee I interacted with was incredibly kind despite how busy they were. The flower shop attendant even brought my baby a balloon to keep him happy while I wrote!
When I mentioned a price discrepancy at checkout so they could update the display, the checkout attendant went out of her way to process a refund for me even though I said it was okay.
You can tell the people working here genuinely care. Thank you for your kindness on a hectic day. ✨🙏
