The order was not ready when we arrived 20 minutes after the scheduled pickup time. The staff at the deli confirmed that they received the order and it was on their clipboard, but they simply told us "we didn't do it". They started working on it, saying it would take half an hour. This should have been caught the night before, but this Safeway's processes and checks demonstrably failed. Food safety is mundane, procedural and unglamorous, but it is critical. It takes time to do correctly, and the consequences of cutting corners can be life-threatening. A catering order earns revenue; basic maintenance and sanitation does not. If this store is letting revenue generation opportunities slip, I shudder to think what routine safety and sanitation is falling through the cracks because "we didn't do it" even thought it was written down and folks know it needed to be done.

But I have such a great experience with it, the produce is always well-picked and the workers are always so nice and friendly. I’ve tried the pickup feature at Whole Foods, I have the opposite experience there (bad produce and unfriendly workers). So now I only do it at Safeway. I had to make a review of it since they are really consistent with making it a great experience for me every time. Sometimes some things are missing or the wrong thing is picked, but it’s rare and never a big deal. Thank you to all the workers that bring out the groceries! Rain or shine, very nice and helpful.
