Side Dish
A selection of Japanese side dishes crafted using methods passed down since the 16th century. Enjoy them as light, standalone options or pair them with main dishes for a more satisfying and abundant meal experience.
Fish collar cooked in a sweet and umami-rich sauce crafted with Chef Alex's special touch, inspired by cooking methods dating back to 16th-century Japan.
All shari (rice) and neta (fish) are crafted in the traditional Japanese Edomae style from the 17th century. The shari is seasoned with a blend of three aged Akazu (red vinegars), enhancing its natural sweetness and smooth acidity. The neta is konbu-jime aged (wrapped in kelp) or dry-aged to maximize its natural umami.

Everything about The Roll was exceptional. When you walk in, you feel the understated elegance of the decor and the service immediately.
My server recommended the Kinoko Nimono, a delicious savory hot mushroom dish, which was a great combination of toothsome shitake and melty oyster mushrooms. I also had the hamachi carpaccio, which was perfectly balanced in acidity with a touch of spice.
The star of my meal was The Moriawase, a Kaisen Don (sashimi rice bowl). This was a gorgeous selection of sashimi on seasoned rice. The inclusion of a perfectly fried ama ebi and creamy uni as well as both salmon and flying fish roe were delightful touches. All of the sashimi in the dish was without question top quality and delicious.
I enjoyed the nori side as well as being encouraged to create little taco-like temake. It added a playful element to the calm atmosphere. The seaweed salad and miso were lovely accompaniments to the dish.
I'm looking forward to my next visit so I can try the maki combinations that i didn't have room for this time. Franky, I'm torn between wanting to tell everyone about The Roll or keep this little gem to myself. I recommend you stop by soon before it's impossible to get a table.
Thanks to chef, staff, and owner alike for a first class experience!

My friends and I decided to eat at this restaurant due to its good reviews, and it did not disappoint! All 3 of us loved our meals and drinks. The fish was fresh, and every dish was full of flavor. The service was very quick, and the owner was very attentive to our needs throughout our meal. Although we are not from San Francisco, when we return, we will definitely be back!

Warm not hot miso soup, small portion. Sushi was TERRIBLE, the rice was chewy and tasted off. The hand rolls were served deconstructed with the same terrible mushy rice. The House salad also was not tossed in the dressing so it just tasted a bit off. The tea was served lukewarm, they only had decaffeinated green tea. Just overall it felt like a subpar restaurant. The prices did not justify the quality of the food. Go elsewhere. Save yourself. Server was nice, only saving grace.

Great server, he was very nice, food wise: mushy unseasoned overcooked rice, small warm miso soup, tea served with hot water and a tea bag, not traditional green tea. Nothing tasted off or bad, just not prepared properly.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. This is the best sushi I have ever had, and our server, Twi (I hope I spelled your name right!) was just wonderfully friendly, helpful, and overall delightful.
