On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, some my family and friends had the pleasure of dining at The Big Four Restaurant in San Francisco, and it truly exceeded my expectations.
From the moment we arrived, the beautiful ambiance set the tone for a wonderful evening. The service (Ali our Waiter) was exceptional, the cocktails were perfectly crafted, and every dish we enjoyed was absolutely delicious. The entire experience felt warm, elegant, and memorable.
I am officially an advocate and fan of The Big Four. If you’re looking for a classic San Francisco dining experience with wonderful food, drinks, atmosphere, and hospitality, I highly recommend it. We will definitely be back.

I was trepidatious about returning to this favorite haunt after being closed for renovations. However no need to distress- this classic haven is better than ever. Thank you for the Anniversary treats and wonderful food, atmosphere and service. We will be back again soon.
Came here for my birthday and it exceeded mine and my friend’s expectations. The food was spectacular, the service friendly and attentive , and I loved the old school feel of the restaurant. It felt like a luxurious experience from start to finish. I highly recommend!

My friend and I are long-time SF residents with high dining expectations, and we chose The Big Four to celebrate my friend's birthday. While the food and drinks were genuinely excellent (the burrata, cavatelli, and chicken pot pie were highlights), the overall experience was completely ruined by the service and a major hygiene issue.
Despite noting the birthday on the reservation, there was zero acknowledgement, not even a simple candle on the dessert we ordered. Additionally, when asking for boxes, our server could only provide a single bag for the both of us, forcing me to carry my leftover container in my purse. Thank goodness I was carrying a ludicrously capacious bag that day.
Two bites into dessert, a rodent scurried across the dining room. When it appeared a second time, we discreetly notified our waiter and moved to the bar to wait for our check.
We expected the dessert to be comped since we had to abandon it after one bite, but it was left on the bill. The staff's response to a live rodent in the dining room was a blunt, unconcerned apology. I've emailed The Big Four twice, DM'd their social media account and have yet to hear back after over a week.
For an elevated establishment, the lack of care and accountability was highly disappointing. While the historic renovation of The Big Four and the Huntington Hotel is beautiful, and the kitchen knows what it’s doing, we won't be recommending this spot anytime soon. Rats!
