We had been wanting to try KAYMA for a few days while staying nearby at Hotel Zephyr, and we finally made it in today. We were definitely not disappointed! The food was absolutely delicious. My daughters had the chicken and couscous, and my oldest loved it so much that she asked for her little sister’s portion too! 😂 We also ordered a beef kebab plate for my husband and dropped it off to him at work. He said he was the envy of all his coworkers who had ordered Chick-fil-A while he was sitting there with this amazing Algerian spread. I also got to try both an iced latte and a hot latte (because apparently one coffee wasn’t enough 💖), and both were delicious. We also ordered an orange juice drink that was SO good that everyone ended up fighting over it. Beyond the food, what really stood out to me was how welcoming this place is for families. The owners, a husband-and-wife team, were incredibly kind and welcoming. They have children themselves, and you can tell they’ve put thought into making the space comfortable for parents and kids. There’s a sweet little children’s nook with a table for coloring, a play tent and play mat, which kept my girls happily entertained while we waited for our food. They also have high chairs, and the bathroom was spotless and had a baby changing table.. something I especially appreciate as a mom because you’d be surprised how many places don’t! The entire restaurant was so clean, organized and thoughtfully set up. They’ve made great use of the space, and there was just a really warm, family-friendly feeling to it. Great food, great coffee, wonderful owners, and a place where I actually felt comfortable bringing my children. We’re only visiting San Francisco, but KAYMA is exactly the kind of small, family-owned business I love finding when we travel. We’ll absolutely be back before we leave!

We visited this restaurant because of all the positive reviews, but honestly, we left feeling confused about them as our experience was very different. It was a 30-degree day, yet the restaurant had its doors fully open and no air conditioning on. Unfortunately, many of the tables were facing directly into the sun, which made the dining experience quite uncomfortable and unpleasant. We even saw in the news later that day, reports of how unusual and hot this was for San Francisco. The food itself was also disappointing in terms of value and presentation. The cous cous bowl ($7-$10)was extremely small and bland for the price, leaving us feeling that we hadn't received much for what we had paid. What really shocked us was that the food was served with paper plates and plastic cutlery. For a dine-in restaurant, we couldn't understand why there was no proper crockery or silverware. The chicken skewers came with two "sides", one of which was simply a tiny dollop of harissa. Calling this a side felt like a cop-out, especially when such a small portion was provided. The service was also quite slow, about a 20 minute wait despite being the only customers in the store at the time. The service was also subpar. We enquired about placing the order via the cashier as we had some questions about the items and whether modifications could be made, but the lady with the hijab just directed us to order via the “self ordering” machine, when we enquired further she reluctantly went to the cashier and rung up our order. We were really looking forward to trying a new cuisine and having a good dining experience, but unfortunately we left feeling dissatisfied — and, to be honest, still hungry. Given the positive reviews, we expected much more. Aside from a more friendly service, either the prices should be lowered or the meals should be more substantial.

Absolutely wonderful food! The spices are so warming and everything has such a great flavor 🤩 I am vegan and it was so refreshing to get real food instead of being an after thought. I got the Earthly Eats bowl and it was fantastic. Came here for lunch and absolutely loved it. Service does take a little longer due to being run completely by one man and one woman but so so worth the wait! You can taste love in these dishes. Highly recommend!
