This used to be my favorite ramen spot - but now the service is meh, and they skimp on the toppings!! And they don’t offer spicy levels im very sad because I’d go back here every time I was in SF and I guess I need a new spot now :(

The plastic cover over the table was not cleaned prior to seating as it was sticky. Spicy miso was not really spicy, but shichimi was available on the table. The namesake ramen Hinodeya ramen was good.

If you want your ramen to taste like fish stew, eat here. I wasn’t expecting it, so was quite disappointed. This is thier house ramen. The broth is not pork, or chicken, it’s fish. I love seafood, but this was like spoiled fish

Man, I was really hoping for more from the ramen... Please do yourself a favor and skip the matcha beer. It's an awful pairing that's probably just a thing because of the current matcha fad. I want to apologize to my server for ordering it...our table got 3. Only I managed to finish it. The ramen was a letdown. The broth was just bland which led to some very lackluster pork chashu. The gyudon tasted excellent, but the portion size for the price left a lot to be desired. However, the karaage chicken was a smash hit, and I would recommend that easily.

Hinodeya has been a ramen mainstay in the city for a long time, and for good reason. Their dashi-based broths are always so light and clean without sacrificing flavor, which I especially appreciate in a city where ramen often leans much richer with tonkotsu or miso as the more prevalent options. The broth has such a deep umami character, and I especially love it in the hamaguri ramen, which comes loaded with littleneck clams. There is just something about a seafood dashi ramen that feels incredibly satisfying. On my most recent visit, I went for the seasonal Tokyo Seven Duck Ramen instead, and it was excellent in a much richer way. The chicken-based broth was the perfect foil for the perfectly cooked and sliced duck breast on top, and the thicker wavy noodles worked beautifully with the bowl. It also came with a perfectly jammy egg, and the charred negi was an underrated highlight since it added sharpness, crunch, and a little smokiness to cut through the richness. My partner ordered the Spicy Butter Miso Butter Corn Ramen, which was even richer and more about buttery corn and miso umami than overt heat. The spice level is definitely more subtle than the name might suggest, but the bowl was still very satisfying. It is a bit pricey for ramen, especially the duck bowl at $34, but the portions are generous and the flavors have always been there for me. That said, it is hard to make this a regular option when there are so many great options in the Bay Area.
