I landed in San Diego and the first thing I did was look up where the Taco Fiend says is the best spot and crossed references it with what’s close to the Gaslamp District. I was excited to try Taco Franc as it was rated the highest. The atmosphere was nice. Music playing and lots of traffic in and out of the restaurant. I ordered the adobada taco the pastor and the chicken taco. The salsa was nice but didn’t have much kick to it. The guacamole was also nice but was bland. For this being the number 1 rated taco spot it fell short in the flavor aspect. I’ve had much better tacos elsewhere. If you are not used to flavor. This place will knock your socks off. If you grew up with lots of seasoning and flavor. It will fall short of expectations. I left happy that u tried it. But disappointed in the flavor.

Stopped in after a Padre game and the line formed pretty fast but they move through pretty quick with getting orders and sending out food. About 10-15 minutes from waiting in line, to ordering, to getting your food. Inside has plenty of tables and chairs/benches in the front. Towards the back is bathroom but also has multiple tables on the back patio. Ordered an Al pastor quesadilla and two separate tacos (cabeza and suadero). Collectively, the food was bomb. Aside of other things, the meat is what’s at center of what makes it a good taqueria. Cabeza and saudero (brisket) is cooked until they are fall off soft tender. Appears to be braised well with their juices aka they weren’t dry. Al pastor was juicy and soft, cooked on a spit. I know it’s busy but would love to a have a bit more char or crisped slices from the trompo. My only criticism is that the quesadilla doesn’t really feel like a quesadilla but more of a larger size Al pastor taco with some melted cheese. Maybe it’s because I have a mental picture of a portion size from other taco shops but for $10 ish dollars, the price makes sense to how big the quesadilla is. If this was like $15 plus it’ll be disappointing. I’m interested to see how big is the difference if we ordered a mulita or vampiro or even did an al pastor taco but make it a queso taco instead. I guess I’ll find out when I come back. Other than that, they are solid. Would still come back for tacos. I can imagine how much busier they would be after a weekend padre game or when the bars let out. They are a Michelin stard taqueria after all.

Feel very ripped off here. $28 for fries, a bottled mineral water, and a “quesadilla” that is very much a bean taco…corn tortilla that is maybe 5” and isn’t even melted closed. They charged me $7 for a bean&cheese taco essentially when meat tacos are under $5. The description even specifies a “large” tortilla when it is actually the same as the mulita. This is fraud. I would avoid wasting your money here on a meal that will not satisfy

As person who spent this summer trying out different taco stands throughout Rosarito, I can honestly say this tacos are truly on par. You don't need to cross the border to get high quality authentic Mexican tacos. Our family had adobada, asada, and cabeza tacos. I recommend all of them. We also had Agua de Jamaica and Horchata. The horchata was honestly the best I ever had. Not all horchata is created equal and this one is definitely made in house. The flan was delicious too. Overall I would highly recommend this place.

UPDATE: In response to the owner -- I guess I should've been clearer about the food quality. One taco is a lot of raw onions, 2 bites of meat, swimming in unseasoned avocado, on a stale tortilla that also has paper stuck to it. It was bland unless you slather it in the salsa. I would've loved to eat the tacos by hand, sadly yours don't hold up. But I've eaten tacos w a fork when the tortilla crumbles if the whole thing is delicious. Yours was mediocre. Oh, and the place was packed, hence the take out. FWIW we took it 2 blocks over to a hotel lobby. We unwrapped it in 5 mins from the time we got the food. They didn't travel far. Best of luck to you. Hope the food gets better. PS you guys also forgot the cheese on one of my order. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Very disappointed in the tacos. It was mostly avocado. Eat it there, don't do take out. The paper they wrap it in doesn't hold up to any moisture, it desintegrates and makes it really hard to eat your taco with anything but forks.
