This taco place was definitely a disappointment, very much over priced tacos. I got the vegetarian mulita, which consisted of a thin slice of cheese, wasn't even melted. My brother got the $12 quesadilla which was pretty much just an oversized taco and the salsa was definitely mediocre. The only thing that was good was the tortillas. There are way better places in San Diego for tacos.
If you’re looking for the absolute gold standard of authentic street tacos in San Diego, you have to hit up Tacos El Franc. But the real secret to the experience? Getting there and having Rob SD working the line.
I stopped by recently, and everything about the visit was top-tier. The food is, without question, some of the best you’ll find in the city—fresh, flavorful, and hits exactly the way a perfect taco should. But what truly elevated the meal was the service from Rob. He’s efficient, incredibly welcoming, and clearly takes pride in what he does, which makes the whole atmosphere feel that much better.
If you’re craving incredible tacos and want to be taken care of by a pro, this is the spot. Huge shoutout to Rob SD for making an already great meal even better. I’ll definitely be back soon!
Growing up in San Diego, you have no shortage of options when it comes to Mexican food taco shops, taco stands, taco trucks, and restaurants on just about every corner. I’ve tried quite a few over the years, so I was excited to finally check out the Tijuana favorite, Taco El Franc, now that they’ve opened in downtown San Diego.
The restaurant itself is clean and welcoming, with a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. They don’t have a salsa bar or chips. They do serve beer, and offer the traditional taco selections along with vegetarian options.
I ordered the carne asada, adobada, and suadero tacos. The carne asada was good, but not quite at the level that would have me making a special trip back. The adobada was a little too sweet for my personal taste. The standout for me was the suadero (beef brisket) taco—it had excellent flavor and was easily my favorite of the three.
Overall, it’s a solid spot if you’re already in the area and looking for good tacos. While I enjoyed the experience, it’s not somewhere I’d personally go out of my way to visit. Still, it’s worth trying at least once to see what the hype is about.
Attention! We urge you to avoid this location at all costs. False advertisement! Publicidad falsa! They are attempting to mislead the public.
Take a look at the photographs. They are mistakenly calling an open taco with cheese, a quesadilla. Now, take a look at the menu and the receipt. They are still charging for an actual real size quesadilla ($11.95), which as everyone knows is typically 3 to 4 times the size of a taco. They are also using corn tortilla instead of a flour tortilla. It almost looks like half of a mulita. The fact that they added cheese to the taco does not give them the right to charge an additional $7.20!
We will be in contact soon with the City of San Diego, BBB, and various other authorities/agencies to review our options as customers. We urge you to be aware of this new establishment as false advertising is strictly prohibited. We will update you on further developments by reposting this review here and, if this has happened to you, we will post a contact as we consider initiating a small class action lawsuit.
FYI, we respectfully requested a call from the owner, however, no one ever reached out.
