This grocery store is the best one in Hillcrest and we have a lot to choose from. Lazy acres is across the street. Whole Foods is over on eighth, we also have Trader Joe’s in Ralphs a little farther down, but this Vons pavilion is clean parking totally accessible a beautiful garage and a elevator that will take you up. If you cannot climb the stairs, it is enormous, beautiful bakery, fresh sushi, hot food great food by the pound. The wine section is well curated. I can’t say enough of good things about this store. The customer service is excellent. The people checking you out are so friendly and kind.I live on eighth a block from Whole Foods, but I make the track over here for my goods.

I don’t know how far a Yelp review goes for a grocery store, but I did want to put this experience out there. This is a very busy grocery store that gets a lot of foot traffic and can sometimes be understaffed. However, I haven’t met a single staff member who hasn’t been willing to help me in some regard and extend a hand of kindness.
In line today, I was in front of a very old woman who was clearly struggling with her groceries and overall day-to-day tasks. There was a woman in a yellow vest, helping her carry her water and move her groceries down and a very kind gentleman scanning her items, one by one and helping her put in her rewards number. They were offering her a chair, offering to help carry her stuff down, or offering to call someone for her. They didn’t make her feel rushed, even though a line was forming behind her, and they took the time to treat her like a human being. I made sure to let the gentleman behind the cashier stand know that it was really sweet to see them treating her so kindly and he told me she’s a regular and they try to do what they can for her and that he hopes everyone spreads a little kindness every day.
I hope anyone that gets to see that kindness learns from it and doubles it to the next person. You never know what someone’s going through, and you never know how a little empathy can change their life for the better.
Cashier’s name was Abe. I don’t know what the woman’s name was. I think it started with a C

Really bizarre experience at Pavilions today. A plain clothes security guard kept trying to give me his name after telling me I couldn’t park in the garage. I told him it doesn’t matter — I said why don’t you worry about the 2 homeless people blocking the entrance to the store and walked away. I’ll just stop shopping there.
Thanks to inhalation and the high cost of living I spend close to $2,000 a month there mainly because it’s convenient and close by, not because it’s cheaper. If I wanted cheaper groceries, I’d go to Ralphs and save hundreds a month.
Go across the street to Lazy Acres — it’s about the same price as Pavilions and doesn’t care about parking as long as you visit the store. And instead of Vons, I’ll be moving all of my family’s business to Ralphs.
Instead of valuing loyal customers, they decided to hassle someone who shops there every week.
