I understand that Luna Grill represents the bare minimum of “Mediterranean food” in a fast-casual, really fast-food, setting. My expectations were already very low, yet the new San Clemente location has managed to be miserably disappointing not once, but twice.
My first visit was a few weeks ago, shortly after it opened. Admittedly visiting a newly opened restaurant in San Clemente is usually a mistake. Everyone rushes to the newest place, and it is inevitably overcrowded for the first few weeks. Still I was driving home from work, my wife and kids were out for the evening, and I did not feel like cooking. I was craving a gyro meat platter, so I stopped in, ordered, and then stood there waiting for almost an hour.
After numerous excuses and apologies, I finally received my food, along with coupons for two entrées and an appetizer. I accepted that I had known what I was getting myself into. Unfortunately, when I got home, the food itself was beyond mediocre. Honestly it was terrible.
Tonight, my oldest son and I returned to use the coupons. Once again, I spent over 45 minutes standing there waiting. I brought the meal home for my two sons and myself, and none of us made it halfway through our food. It was cold, tasteless, and thoroughly disappointing. It was mediocre at best and genuinely unpleasant.
After two visits, two extraordinarily long waits, and two terrible meals, why would anyone go back? I certainly will not. I paid for one meal, received one supposedly “free” meal, and both were a complete waste of time. Even with realistic expectations for fast-food Mediterranean cuisine, Luna Grill’s San Clemente location failed to meet them.
I would rather go to Navarro’s Grill. Zov’s in Del Mar is another option, though its prices are difficult to justify for an average family simply trying to grab dinner. Regardless, we are done with Luna Grill. Sorry, not sorry.
And anyone rating this place with 5 stars has never eaten actual good food and should be ashamed to post those reviews in public. Seriously, your numerous visits to Jack In The Box don't count and you obviously grew up eating chicken nuggets from a box...
