Thank you for coming through on our catering order even though you closed for the day after a busy holiday work week. We celebrated an 50th wedding anniversary and everyone was thrilled with the food, commented over and over how good of a choice I made to order from you. They do a lot of bbq parties and while I don’t know how to bbq, they do-and so do you! Bbq is a whole other skill. When I asked them what foods they might want prior to ordering, I prepped by saying collard greens are non negotiable and they all agreed they were the best they have ever tasted. Thanks again, all was ready on time and very fresh and hot. We easily could have fed 40 people with what we ordered for 17 haha. Better too much than not enough.

This place came highly recommended & the reviews were great so I had to try it. I only gave stars because the service was great. It was a complete let down for me. The atmosphere is nice, the service is top notch. However the food wasn't up to par in my opinion. My macaroni & cheese was too mushy. The noodles were extremely over cooked. The yams looked good, but lacked flavor I didn't know that was possible. My chicken was dry & tough. The cornbread was the best thing on the plate.

This restraunt i only experienced for 28 minutes, and in the 28 minutes I was there, me and my girlfriend were welcomed in with positive hopfilled smiles and attitude that made our 18hr emergency trip all worth it. And as the 4 meat platter I had ordered hit my tongue, the "spicy sauce" expanded the smoked meats flavor into a delightful fruity and tangy taste, paired with the Mac and cheese to give a nice layer of creaminess to compliment all the flavors made it all the better. The collard greens were fantastic, having never had them but one other time before, it showed me a wonderful savory and potent broth that made my sore eyes feel comfortable again. The cornbread was sweet and dense making all the better to slather amongst the remainder of the spicy sauce in the box. We had ran into the store with 30 mins to close, knowing that we'd be later, we ordered ahead of time to not impead the lovely staff, or the head cook (of which was a lovely and excellent person to meet.). They welcomed us in anyway, and the cook told us to stay awhile and relax, not knowing we had traveled 13 hrs to Sacramento and stopped here on a whim. It took 8 mins to get all of our food (admittedly a decent amount), and the other 20 mins were tasting the perfectly smoked chicken, mild links, tri-tip, and fall off the bone ribs. All perfectly juicy and savory, all of which was made better in conversing with the staff. Alex, AKA: "A1" was an amazing staff that had so much charisma that could only be matched by their other coworkers, after hearing the circumstances of our trip, they were all so caring and understanding. As we finished the meal with banana pudding, the sweet notes of the chilled pudding, and the light and airy whipped cream topped by 4 half of wafers danced in our heads as we started to pack up respecting the 8pm closing time. Alex welcomed me to California for the first time, and gave us a souvenir to remember this restraunt for the rest of our days. I appreciate all the staff for making us feel at home when we were alittle home sick. Perfect score. No notes. Thank you all for the meal.

My son was turning 1 and when I say I was DEPRESSED about his babyhood ending, I mean it. It was 6 pm on a Friday and we were having his first birthday party at noon on Saturday. I had been pushing off ALL the planning because I didnt want to face the truth that my last baby was now a year old. I went into Bear West on the Friday night, two people in front and already a line of people out the door. We get up to the front and I ask if they could cater for 30 people for my sons first bday party the next day. The cashier went to go talk to the owner who then called us back to talk to "Grandma." I explained the situation and I had my baby with me and she was soooo understanding how I felt. She said she could get the food together if I was willing to push back the pick up time. NOT A PROBLEM AT ALL! lol The next day my husband went in and picked up all the food. The food was delicious! Absolutely amazing, tasted fresh, amazing flavor and EVERYONE was asking where we got it from so they could go! Thank you so much Bear West for being THE BEST BBQ and Soul Food and for coming through to help a mom that was refusing to accepting reality. You MADE the party a success. <3

Hot damn! Is all I can say. This is some of the best BBQ I've ever tasted in the US. There is a woman chef who hails from the south. She came by our table to say hello. I had the chicken and my Mom ordered the beef brisket. Talk about tender with the meat falling off the bone. Shut yo mouth... The potato salad is fresh, not store bought. Likewise, the collared greens and corn bread makes you want to holler, "More Please." But don't get me wrong, the portions are generous. This is not a place for fine dining, a lot of people were ordering for take out. I ate my food there and ordered a meal to go. It's located in a nondescript part of Sacramento and has plenty of parking. Oh, before I forget, Bear West BBQ has the staple of southern desserts i.e. peach cobbler, seven up cake, and German chocolate cake. I think they may also have sweet potato pie, but I'm not sure. The staff is friendly and the food is great. Atmosphere may be a bit basic, remember it's not a fine dining experience. It's a BBQ joint. But who cares because the food is the main attraction at Bear West. Sorry, I didn't take any photos, I was too busy eating. 😄 Eat your heart out, Island Girl
