  Category: Winery. This delicious tasting proved that perceptions of wine quality are not necessarily influenced by spectacular winery architecture. We know this because the tasting was held at the guest house at the top of the property, rather than at the winery itself, which we assume was spectacular but we never saw it because road construction blocked access to the latter. The guest house was more like a middle-class family home, and in fact was exactly that in the winery’s early days, when the owners/winemakers raised their family in the house. So our very likeable and knowledgeable host expertly led us through the tasting on the guest house’s wooden deck and well-loved teak table. We booked this tasting on the recommendation of friends with great wine pallettes. Glad we did. We learned from our host that the winery’s name means calcium-rich limestone and chalky soil, on which the winery sits. The excellent wines included in our tasting, which were all blends, included most of the Paso varietals, including the always appreciated Tempranillo, seldom-seen Zinfandel, and the lesser-known Graciano. We especially liked the GSMs. We’ll return on our next trip to see if the winery itself is as spectacular as its wines. YouTube’s Chef’s Apprentice

  We had a wonderful experience at Linne Calodo in Paso Robles. The ambience was very pleasant and relaxing, making it a great place to sit back and truly enjoy the wines. What really stood out was the staff. Everyone was extremely friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. They took the time to explain not only the wines we were tasting, but also the story behind them—the sources of the grapes, how the wines were made, and even the meaning and inspiration behind their names. That added a whole new dimension to the tasting experience. I especially enjoyed The Contrarian. Learning the story behind the wine and its name made it even more interesting and memorable. Overall, Linne Calodo offers a great combination of excellent wine, a beautiful and comfortable atmosphere, and genuinely knowledgeable hospitality. Definitely a winery I would recommend visiting while in Paso Robles, and one I look forward to visiting again.
