They systematically violate storage temperatures: the fish sits in improper conditions far longer than it should. Salmon is a fatty fish, and without proper cooling, the fats begin to oxidize immediately. Because of this oxidation and bacterial growth, the flesh breaks down and turns mushy, while the fish develops a foul, rancid taste and an off-putting, stale smell. Those permanent sales and discount tags are only there to push spoiled fish onto customers. Eating it is completely unsafe and puts you at risk of serious food poisoning. Don't risk your health for cheap seafood—steer clear of their fish counter!

I'm just used to the larger Safeway in Menlo Park and after visiting this smaller Palo Alto Safeway, I can pinpoint a few things that I don't like which make it only average: Limited space means less choice. Some of the products we normally get in Menlo Park are just not available here. The milk department has a huge display in front of it, making a narrow entry way to the milk section. That's fine if you're the only one there, but if someone else is is there, it gets very crowded and difficult. Other areas of the store are also much more narrow in general, clearly to accommodate its smaller size but really does make it challenging to walk around the store. You're always having to back off and let someone through.
