I usually do not leave negative reviews, but after what happened yesterday, I feel it is important for people to know what they may experience at this location.
I have been shopping here since high school because I live nearby, and it has always been convenient. Unfortunately, this experience was enough for me to decide I will not be returning, which is genuinely sad.
I used the self checkout and paid with cash. After getting to my car, I realized I had forgotten my change in the machine. I immediately went back inside and saw an employee hand my change to another employee.
Because the store was noisy, I called out that it was my change. The second employee immediately asked for my receipt in a rude and dismissive tone. I explained that the other employee had just seen me complete my transaction and told her she did not have to be mean. She responded, "Yeah, we need a receipt. I'm not mean. Damn, you act like we're going to take your money from you."
I never accused anyone of taking my money. I was simply explaining that another employee had witnessed my transaction. I completely understood that a receipt was required and that employees have procedures they must follow. That was never the issue.
When I returned with my receipt, the employee continued to be hostile. I explained that I was not suggesting anyone would take my money and that I only mentioned the other employee because she had just seen me check out moments earlier. Instead of de-escalating the situation, she became more defensive and even claimed there were witnesses who saw how I was treating her. That confused me because I had not raised my voice, insulted her, or been disrespectful. I was simply trying to retrieve the change I had accidentally left behind.
She also claimed I told her to "hurry up," which I absolutely did not. I handed her my receipt and said, "Here is the receipt." The store was noisy, so maybe she misheard me, but it felt like she had already decided I was a problem before I even spoke.
What makes this more upsetting is that I am currently on maternity leave with a baby at home. Like many new mothers, I am exhausted, sleep deprived, and have struggled with anxiety about leaving the house since having my baby. Yesterday was one of the few times I pushed myself to get out (during heat wave) and buy food for my child.
I also work in customer service, so I understand that employees deal with difficult people and stressful situations every day. We are all human. However, being stressed or having a bad day is not an excuse to treat paying customers with hostility and disrespect.
I spent the rest of the day replaying this interaction in my head, wondering if I had done something wrong. The more I thought about it, the more I realized I had not. I forgot my change, explained the situation, provided my receipt, and remained respectful throughout the interaction.
I left feeling embarrassed, dismissed, and heartbroken. As a customer who has shopped here for years, I expected basic courtesy and respect. Sadly, this experience has convinced me not to return.
