What has happened to the world? Does anyone know what customer service actually means anymore? When did Baskin Robbins start putting a limit of only two tastes per person on their ice cream stores? After having an embarrassing experience in Safeway next door I decided to come over to Baskin-Robbins and enjoy my favorite guilty treat... A hot fudge sundae! When I got in the store I noticed that there were several new flavors that I've never tried and I was excited to try them and then decide what ice cream I wanted for my Sunday. The first one I tasted waspretty good but I wasn't totally convinced that I wanted it, and I wanted to compare the butter pecan with the pralines and cream, so I wanted a taste of each. There was another couple in there that I asked if they wanted to go ahead of me and they did. Then the young man working behind the counter asked me if I had decided yet and I said "actually I'd like to try a couple others" and he replied with "I'm sorry but you are only allowed two tastes ." I kindly asked if he could possibly make an exception since I wanted to compare two similar ice creams and he said "no I cannot." I stood back for a moment thinking and said "well how about you charge me for the extra tastes?" He said "I don't even know what I would charge for that!" I then told the other party of three, that had came in, to go ahead of me, again, and they did and thanked me on their way out. I then asked the young man "How about you charge me for an extra scoop, would that work?" He rolled his eyes and very shortly replied "I guess". The rest of the exchange went as expected quickly and someone cold I guess no pun intended LOL. However when I got back out to my car and looked at my receipt I was a little taken aback. I only add three extra very small tastes and I was charged $3.19!!!! and despite the less than par service, I still put a dollar, in cash, in the gentleman's tip cup. So a two scoop (very small for 2 scoops also) sundae cost me $12.68!!!! I realize that gas prices are high and the cost of everything have gone up but come on, does it sound even logical to charge someone over $3 for three tiny sample spoon tastes of something? I'm curious where the issue is here is it a lack of training for a situation like this? Or is the lack of training on customer service? Or is this an isolated incidence with the young man that helped me? I would appreciate it if someone got back to me, because I've had fond memories of getting hot fudge sundaes at Baskin-Robbins with my grandma since I was a child and this left a very bad taste in my mouth as far as Baskin-Robbins is concerned.
