For the past four years, we have eaten food from Juan Great Fiesta many times and have enjoyed our meals from there. This review is based solely on what I personally observed during a pickup order.
On a Saturday evening, I placed a DoorDash pickup order. When I arrived, my order wasn’t ready, which was understandable given how busy they were. The open kitchen made it easy to see food being prepared.
While waiting, I observed an employee empty a pre-portioned bag of raw chicken into the fryer. One piece remained in the bag, so she picked it up with her gloved hand and placed it into the fryer. She then wiped that same gloved hand on a kitchen towel and immediately continued preparing other customers’ food, including wrapping burritos and portioning beans and rice, without changing gloves or washing her hands.
I informed the cashier of what I had observed, explained that I believed it was an unsafe food-handling practice, and asked to cancel my order. While I understand that unsafe practices can occur at any restaurant, witnessing what appeared to be cross-contamination involving the food my family was about to eat was enough for me to leave.
Because of this experience, I will not be returning. I’m sharing this review simply to document what I observed so others can make their own informed decisions.
