- NBNathanial BaumsteigerJun 9, 20261.0This goes for all Safeway stores where the new Ingenico card readers have been installed: these new card readers installed on Self-Checkout repeatedly fail to recognize mobile device payment methods. Each time it takes at least 3 tries to recognize the NFC signal and the Ingenico card reader says, "Card read error." I have gone to multiple Safeway stores and within this same store used the previous generation of card reader and can confirm that there is no issue on the previous generation. As seems to be the case for Safeway, in general, more QA needs to be conducted at pilot locations, esepcially in the area of technology and inventory consistency.

Unbeknownst to me the gift card they are selling, to all of us, closest location is over 100 miles away. So I went to ask if they would exchange it for a restaurant that's at least in our same county and they basically told me to go pound salt. Obviously I'm not happy about that at all. Why would they sell a gift card that has no locations within 100 miles? Seems very unfair and underhanded. I called corporate to see if they could help and got the same result. So that will be the last time I ever spend a dime with Safeway. I hope it's worth $50 to lose a lifelong customer Safeway. Thanks for nothing.
