"We came here for Mother’s Day after visiting the museum nearby. For being right in the heart of Hollywood, the prices were fair—not exactly cheap, but definitely not overpriced for the area. The food was a bit of a mixed bag. My older son wasn't a fan of the pasta dish, but the burgers were the stars of the show. My wife loved the Burger she ordered, and the BBQ Burger was a huge hit with everyone. I ordered the Steak Flatbread, which felt and tasted more like a pizza, but it was honestly delicious. This place has so much potential to be a major, 'big-time' restaurant, even if it hasn't quite reached that level yet. It was a solid spot for a holiday meal, and we'd likely come back for those burgers!"

I’ve dined at the Rooftop restaurant several times, and I’ve noticed a general trend: extremely slow service, but tasty food. My most recent visit on Friday, May 8, however, permanently changed my opinion of this restaurant. (I dined in a group of four for a 6:00 PM reservation.) At the start of meal, everything seemed as good as usual: extremely slow service, but tasty food. I ordered the Sea Bass as my main entree and the Garlic Cheese Puffs as my appetizer. Another person in my party also ordered the same entree. After 40 minutes—yes, 40 minutes—the staff begins dropping off our food. They brought everything except my sea bass, but they brought my friend’s. After 5 minutes, when it seemed apparent that our waiter wasn’t going to check in on us, we signal him over and ask about my sea bass. He quickly says he’ll “check on it.” Then, 5 minutes later, he returns saying the dish would be right out. At this point, I’ve been waiting almost 55 mins for a sea bass dish. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy, so this started to become frustrating, especially with the lack of attentive service. Finally, my dish arrives. My partner noticed that the color of my sea bass didn’t match the golden brown, crispness of my friend’s sea bass. I then cut directly into the center of the fish and discover it’s purple and raw. Inedible. Now, it’s 7:00 PM. I’ve waited 1 hour for raw fish? We quickly wave down our waiter and show him the raw fish, which he takes back to the kitchen for a re-fire. Because I was seeing John Mulaney at the Hollywood Bowl at 7:30 PM, I requested the order to be canceled. The manager visits our table and tries to offer me another dish “on the house,” but given the time and the fact that I was served raw food, I declined. I didn’t want to rush eating my food and quite frankly didn’t trust the kitchen to cook more food for me. Flash forward to receiving the check. The manager gave us a 50% discount, which only did two things: 1. It removed the sea bass—but why not just void that dish? Oh, they said they can’t do that. That seems odd to me, given the type of restaurant the Rooftop purports itself to be. 2. It gave us $20 off a $200+ bill. By the way, the restaurant still charged an automatic gratuity charge of 20%. I understand that’s the Rooftop’s policy, which they do state on their website and their menu. But why should the staff receive an automatic gratuity when they clearly forgot to put in my sea bass, then served it raw, and didn’t bother to refill our water or check in on us throughout the meal. Again, the restaurant has extremely slow service, but, this time, inedible food. After we pay, the waiter brings my party free shots, which we all politely declined. None of us ordered shots in the first place, drinks yes, but we weren’t in that kind of mood. I don’t believe the Rooftop did all that they could to make the situation right, and the manager didn’t even bother to check in on us at the end of the meal. Her lack of urgency was appalling and, quite frankly, disturbing. I highly doubt she would be okay with this kind of service if she were in my position. I will never dine here again, and will never recommend it. What a shame. This place was starting to become a regular spot for me.

This place had been a regular spot for dinner before an event at the Chinese Theatre, the Dolby, or Hollywood Bowl. Unfortunately, had an awful series of experiences that force me to highly recommend you choose somewhere else to eat. The street hot dog vendors might be safer, will be faster, and will not force a 20% tip after they ruin your meal with awful service. 1) Walked in Thursday around 6 to grab something quick before a show. We had no reservation but the place was maybe 1/4 seated, so we thought the two of us would be fine. We were told by the hostess they were accepting only reservations at that time. Whatever, my partner was annoyed but I rationalized it by saying perhaps they aren't yet staffed for more guests. This excuse dried up when we sat to eat somewhere up the street and I checked OpenTable and saw they had available reservations which meant they could handle more but just chose not to. Annoying and crappy since we go here semi-regularly. 2) Since 4 of us would be back in the area the next night, we made reservations to avoid this. We were seated just fine but everything else was just off. Two of us ordered the same sea bass entree. When all our food came out but only 1 sea bass, we waited thinking it was just behind. 5 minutes, nothing. So I call the waiter over (as he was not being proactive in providing service, and call it to his attention. He says he will get it right out. We're on a time crunch since we are seeing a show after and as this place already takes pretty long to serve food we were now even shorter on time to eat. The fish took quite a while to come out so I just shared my dinner so all of us could eat something. Eventually, the fish came out, I took one look at it and recommended it be checked inside before eaten. Sure enough, purple in the center. Raw. They forgot the dish, took 10-15 minutes to get it out, then served it half-cooked. They offered to retire but we had no time left so just asked that they cancel. The manager decides to come over to address the issue. She apologized. Fine. Step 1. Next, we ask for the check, and when we get the check it has a $50 manager's discount. Sounds good except the $30 seabass is still on there and they say they can't remove it. So, they gave us $20 off a $250 bill. That covered the tax. Here's the best part - a mandatory 20% gratuity added! Their attempt to make it ok? They sent 4 shots of some clear liquor to a table that was hungry still and not even remotely interested in a shot. We said no thank you. Honestly, the service is always slow and somewhat poor any time we came, but the food was at least acceptable. This experience was some of the worst table service and management I've seen at a restaurant in a very long time. Embarrassing - for us, the manager did not seem to be embarrassed.

Starting off with the appetizer of the little grilled cheese and tomato bisque was phenomenal. The texture of the sandwiches was perfectly crisp on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. The bisque was to die for and a perfect combination between the two. We ordered the fish platter was perfectly seasoned, cooked, and plated. Unfortunately, the side of Mac and cheese was gritty with an off taste but still edible. Overall, the food was pretty great though. All of our food came out hot despite the colder atmosphere on the rooftop. A few disappointing notes were just having to ask for the heaters to be lit, food service was kind of cold, and we didn’t see our server very frequently despite how slow it was with customers. The setting included additional wax figures throughout the restaurant, which was neat to see carried from the museum up to the dining room.
