This is my neighborhood store and I show here several times per week. Today Jun11@ 3:15pm I was in the Deli department and suddenly a few isles over I hear several adult males arguing. They were loud and unsettling. These days a shopper expects danger to pop up anywhere. I became nervous and started looking for shelter. I saw other 2 shoppers in my vicinity looking around and nervous. Then, around the corner at high unsafe speed can a motorized cart for people with disabilities. A young adult male was riding it and laughing as he was zooming into the deli department. There were 3 other young adult males with him and they were telling home to stop and get off the motorized cart. But the driver refused while laughing and claiming that he was obese and was entitled to ride the cart. I’m not a health professional but the guy was in shape of a quarterback and not a defense linebacker!
They were loud and the driver was not using caution for other shoppers and was playing with recourses that are crucial for shoppers with difficulty walking. This store is just a few blocks away from a retirement community and we get a lot of shoppers that are in their 70ies and up.
The driver was clearly going too fast and reckless and showed no sign of stopping his behavior and this could lead to causing damage or injuries to others, if he was not stopped.
Then out from behind the deli counter comes the Safeway Team member. A man in his late 40ies, not as tall as the 4 young adult males. The team member went straight to the 4 males, who were quite a bit taller than he was. He stayed about 4 or more feet away from the others while he was addressing the driver to stop driving the cart and explained that it was for people with difficulty walking. The driver continued to argue with the team member but eventually gave up. The team member then urged the rowdy guys to leave and escorted them out of the store, staying at a good 5 to 6 ft away.
There were several onlookers and I was probably the closest customer. While I am not elder or frail like most shoppers who spend money in that Safeway location, I was afraid the groups’ behavior and what that could lead to. I am very grateful that the team member at the deli counter consisted customer safety 1st, and put a quick stop to the unsafe driver behavior while remaining at a safe distance from the group. The team member showed professionalism throughout and represented Safeway in a positive light. Like I said before, there is enough trouble going on with reckless behavior in stores. Thank you!, Safeway Team member for keeping the customers safe and comfortable to return to do more shopping!

They need to get rid of that stupid Pokémon machine that they have at the bottom of the escalator. It makes it so I don’t even feel safe shopping here anymore. Every time I try to go back to my car after buying groceries, the whole bottom of the escalator is crowded with people who are walking behind and unplugging stuff and getting mad at people.
I can’t even go down the escalator without getting mean mugged and stared at.
If Safeway wants to have this stupid machine here, they need to have an employee down there making sure people are behaving. I guess I will just shop at Draegers now because I cannot even safely walk back to my car.
Honestly, this store has been absolute crap ever since the renovation many years ago. Constantly expired products. I don’t know how many times I’ve gotten salami from here just to open the package and have it be full of mold and expired multiple months ago.
But now I can’t even walk back to my car without being stared at and harassed?

This is a pretty nice Safeway. I tend to shop here at night and it's a very quiet and relaxed shopping experience compared to the stores in Sunnyvale and Mtn View.
Only gripes are sometimes they have a limited selection of some product varieties, they close the self checkout area absurdly early, and in the past some of the deli staff I've interacted with were impatient and rude.
