About

Coffee ShopCafeBluestone Lane
Welcome to Bluestone Los Altos! We're heading to the Bay Area with our first sit down cafe in the San Francisco region. Housed in what used to be the Los Altos train station, this new café brings locals a brunch and lunch destination inspired by the beautiful Australian coast. The Design The café was uniquely designed to blend signature Melbourne & Sydney coastal café aesthetics, with the historical features of the building. The space, now a heritage-listed Los Altos landmark features a grand entrance that opens up into an open-plan café, with segmented seating areas creating a large, spacious feel. Australian beach prints adorn the walls, and bright furnishings paired with an abundance of natural light bring a coastal feel to the cafe. Menu The café menu includes Bluestone Lane favorites, such as Avocado Smash and the Good Grains Granola, complimented by Californian café staples, such as the Breakfast Burrito, as well as a range of progressive, seasonal dishes inspired by culinary themes found in Australia.

Friendly helpful staff, accomodating with menu change requests, didn't hurry us. Excellent menu choices for diverse palates and dietary needs. Food was yummy. Lovely patio. Would be glad to return.

I must say, this place was once a lovely, high-end café here in Los Altos. The food has always been delicious, and the coffee consistently excellent, but what truly made it stand out was the incredible service. Everyone went above and beyond, and they did so with genuine warmth and a smile. Even difficult customers — and trust me, I know a few — were treated with patience, kindness, and professionalism. The staff never took things personally and always made people feel welcome. However, for quite a while now, the service has been atrocious. Downright inhospitable at times — rude, inattentive, and painfully clear that many of the employees simply do not enjoy their jobs or working with people. The lack of people skills is astonishing. This place went from being something truly special — a café that stood above nearly every restaurant and café in the area — to something not merely unremarkable, but remarkably terrible. And it all comes down to the service. Whoever has been running the show lately is doing real damage to this business and its reputation. That said… there may still be hope for this place yet. Then along came Clare. She’s charming, enthusiastic, engaging, attentive, and has that rare je ne sais quoi that simply cannot be taught. She completely changed the atmosphere of our visit and reminded me why I used to love coming here in the first place. Clare represents the kind of hospitality this café was once known for, and frankly, she just might be your saving grace.

I went to this place by myself for a Sunday brunch. The restaurant parking was full, but there’s a larger parking lot across the street, so I parked there and walked over. The place is quite spacious, with seating indoors, on the patio, and outside. Since the weather was beautiful with spring blooms all around, I chose to sit outside. I was seated right away, which was great. The main issue was getting the server’s attention. It was very busy, and while the staff were clearly working hard, the service felt slow and could definitely be improved. Once I was able to order, I started with a macchiato and water. For food, I went with a traditional breakfast platter — sourdough toast topped with smashed avocado, eggs, bacon, and sautéed vegetables. I also added halloumi, a pan-fried firm cheese. One piece of the halloumi was excellent, but the other had a slightly strong, goat-cheese-like aroma, which I personally didn’t enjoy. Otherwise, the dish was fresh, healthy, and satisfying. I also ordered a side of fried potato wedges, which came with dipping sauce and sour cream — a nice indulgent addition and very enjoyable. Overall, the food was really good and well-balanced. The only downside was the slow service, which may be understandable given how busy it was, but still leaves room for improvement.

What a great environment. This restaurant is in a craftsmen style house full of charm. The sandwiches that we had was tasty and actually unique. We got asked how's everything like 3 times. Sure it's important to be attentive but 3 times is a bit much haha. I'm sure one of the times the wait staff was about to ask for payment but switched to asking about the food after seeing that we are only half way done with the sandwichs. Would I go back? Definitely will when we are in the mood to sit in a nice country style home.

3.5, rounding up to 4 because the American rating system is [redacted] up. And at least these folks have (thankfully) resisted the obnoxious Bay Area surcharge BS'ery. Overall, this place is... fine. The service is friendly and helpful, and everything else: fine. - Parking? The lot right in front is cramped, but the lot across is... fine. - Seating? Not great, but not especially uncomfortable. Also fine. - Food? Serviceable. Filling, tasty-enough, uninspiring, also... fine. More specifics on the food: - Potato wedges: Kinda bland and really needed a touch of seasoning beyond the included ketchup. Some are crisp, some aren't. Sorta disappointing for a $3 upsell. - Fresh squeezed juices: Dunno, they were out of all of them today. - Kouign-amann: Small'ish. Unremarkable. - Burrata & prosciutto sandwich: Kinda odd, frankly, but ultimately (you guessed it), fine. The prosciutto was rolled or bunched up into sorta a cylinder on each sandwich half, so bites were either all-prosciutto or none. The bread was barely toasted, so rather soggy. Jam & greens were a nice touch, though, and the overall portion-size was generous. My earlier visit was some time ago, so I don't remember exactly what I ordered, but I recall it being mid, er, fine then as well. So who is this place even for? - Folks who crave some lovely outdoor seating - Aussies nostalgic for what I guess are some Aussie classic foods and drinks? - And, speaking personally, those of us who gotta burn through monthly Resy credits and have few other nearby restaurants to choose from. I wish I had more actionable advice for this restaurant other than "please strive to up your food game", I really do, but I just had to be honest here.
