The bone in chicken wings with Mama’s signature sauce were finger licking good. Must try the spicy pork donburi, just enough spice. Mama’s Japchae was delicious and the galbi beef combo was a perfect meal. Food portion are big.
- JCJoshua ChuiSep 18, 20265.0Volcano Island, operated by Mama Seoul, has some great mainstays, from their fried chicken to their soondubu, but I am writing this review for their spicy gejang, which, in my opinion, is the best take in The Bay. It's also fresh, balanced, and reasonably priced. I can't speak for how close it is in tradition, but the marinade is the best and most balanced of sweet, spicy, and salty. Most other gejang I've had in the Bay lean too heavy on the soy in the marinade where the crab becomes too salty to eat on it's own. Also, Mama Seoul takes the time to properly trim the spines on the carapace to make a more enjoyable eating experience.
