About

Mexican RestaurantCatererChicken RestaurantFast Food Restaurant
While some things have changed over the last few decades, El Pollo Loco's delivery of fresh, authentic food has not. Everything starts with whole chickens that are slowly marinated in a special recipe of herbs, spices, fruit juices and garlic. The chicken is then expertly fire-grilled to perfection the authentic way - on our signature open-flame grills - then hand cut into your favorite Mexican entrees. We put that same dedication and care into our handmade guacamole, salsas and dressings every day. At El Pollo Loco in Hayward, CA, we believe that when real food meets real fire the result is great taste that will keep you coming back again and again.

Excellent customer service for mobile orders. My order is always ready when I arrive, and the one time I accidentally ordered from the wrong store, they worked it out for me so I didn’t have to go to the other store.

I stopped by El Pollo Loco expecting a satisfying chicken meal. What arrived, however, left me staring at my plate in genuine disbelief. The fried chicken pieces were so unbelievably tiny that I honestly wondered if there had been some sort of mix-up in the kitchen. I wasn't convinced they were serving chicken at all. My first thought was, "Did they accidentally serve canary?" Unless I'm mistaken...perhaps "canary" is called *pollo* in Spanish? I've seen chicken wings. I've seen drumettes. I've even seen popcorn chicken. But these pieces looked like they had come from a bird that skipped every meal from birth. If there had been a magnifying glass included with the combo, I would have considered it a thoughtful touch. Finding the meat was like participating in an archaeological dig. There was plenty of breading, but the actual chicken required careful excavation. By the time I uncovered it, I felt like I deserved a certificate in paleontology. The flavor itself wasn't bad. The seasoning had a pleasant crunch and the coating was nicely crisp. Unfortunately, every bite ended just as it began. I spent more time wondering where the rest of the chicken had gone than actually eating it. Portion size matters. When you order fried chicken, you're expecting something that resembles...well...a chicken. Instead, I felt like I'd been introduced to the poultry equivalent of "travel size." I left the restaurant amused more than angry, but also still hungry. My meal raised more questions than it answered: * Was this the smallest chicken in recorded history? * Was it raised in a dollhouse? * Or was I unknowingly participating in a "Guess the Species" contest? Overall, if the goal was to make me laugh, mission accomplished. If the goal was to serve a filling fried chicken meal, I think the kitchen may want to locate a slightly larger bird next time. The seasoning was enjoyable, but the portion size left me wondering whether I had ordered fried chicken...or an endangered songbird's distant cousin.

Sometimes we don't want to cook and lazy to go to restaurants, and we love El Pollo Loco since forever. Luckily, this restaurant is closer to our home than any other ones, I think it's only opened a year or 2, quite new. When it first opened, we could buy 8 piece legs and thighs for $12, but the sale is gone, and we had to use the App which does have many deals for family weekly. Last week we're craving for the chicken and got the 12 piece family for only $25 instead of $40 regular, it's a no brainer to go and take them home. When I got there, the nice lady behind the counter asked if we add 8 more pieces for $10, yes please. So, for $35 we got 20 pieces of legs and thighs (we don't like the dry breasts) and 3 large sides order: Mashed Potato, Corn, and Coleslaw. This restaurant is very clean, the servers are extremely pleasant, fast and helpful. The chicken flamed broiled perfectly, juicy and not dry as some other places. Flavorful and Yummy. The sides are extremely good too, everyone loves the mashed potato, it actually has chunks for potato in it and the gravy is plenty and perfectly mate with the potato. I like the corn and coleslaw, better than many other restaurants. It's inexpensive, tasty and the whole family enjoys healthy foods and the best is we don't have to wash the dishes. What else can you ask for?
