- PPPablo PApr 27, 20261.0I just went to Safeway in Downtown Grass Valley to buy my groceries for the week like I always do, and had a very uncomfortable experience. The cashier, Pennie, made me feel unwelcome and uneasy. I waited in line behind three or four other people. When it was my turn, she looked me up and down, examining me. Then she looked at my food and started scanning without even checking the codes; I had to tell her there were two types of bananas (organic and non-organic) because she scanned them all as organic. I bag my own groceries because I wasn't offered any help. Then, when I entered my phone number for the rewards code, she stared at me again and asked if the food was for me or if I was doing DoorDash. She didn't ask anyone ahead of me that question, she didn't stare at anyone else, and she helped everyone else bag their groceries. That differential treatment and her dismissive attitude were completely unnecessary. Yes, I have an accent and I am from another country, but I have lived in Grass Valley for 13 years and I am a US citizen. I hope management reads this and sends her to customer service training.
