On a clear day, the view from Chart House Dana Point extends 50 miles down the Southern California Coast all the way to La Jolla. As one of the best Dana Point restaurants with a view, Chart House is seated atop the majestic bluffs overlooking the Dana Point Harbor and the pristine azure waters of the Pacific Ocean. Simply put, Chart House is one of the most romantic restaurants in Dana Point, year round. In the spring, the ocean comes to life with the mass migration of grey whales as they travel past Dana Point on their trip south. From our restaurant, you can view not only these majestic whales, but also dolphins and seals. Sailboats from the Yacht Club and Harbor streak across vibrant blue waters and fishing boats dot the horizon. Every July, the Chart House affords the best view in town of the magnificent fireworks set off from a barge in the Harbor. In December, holiday lights dazzle as the Boat Parade fills the waters. And all of this can be viewed from your table while enjoying the most unique menu of Prime Rib, steak and seafood Dana Point has to offer. For the best seafood restaurant in Dana Point with an amazing happy hour and the most beautiful ocean views in Orange County - Chart House is the place to be.

The prime rib end cut was so good! I would suggest maybe using a pepper grinder instead of the shaker, tho. Adds a touch of class. The atmosphere is relaxing and peaceful. The only thing I did not care for is there are a lot of stairs and no way around it. Service was a bit slow and lingering...maybe bc it was a Sunday after a holiday and they were short-staffed. But overall, the food was good and the staff was nice.

Cesar salad bowl was stale, coconut shrimp was drenched in oil ( obviously fryer was not at correct temp and absorbed the oil instead of frying ) the soft shell had turned which ruined the crab cake. Server attended the table next to us as they were running her but never stopped to check on us when it was needed.

James at the bar was very attentive, professional and friendly. We observed his passion for what he does and his respect for his fellow team members. We will return and sit at the bar again with James!

I tried to use the landrys feedback as asked by the owner but the character limit was woefully inadequate. To begin with, we were a party of 19 (including 4 children) which I understand is a lot for the kitchen and staff. So some slowness is expected. The positives: beautiful location and view, clean table and main dining area, friendly staff upon entey and initial interactions. Crab cake was absolutely delicious. The negatives: Not very attentive throughout the experience - Over a three hour meal we had water refilled only twice. I tried to get someone's attention twice and was completely ignored. It seemed as though the only people responsible for filling waters were the wait staff, which seems crazy to me considering how busy they typically are. Plates were stacking up along the end of the table and despite bussers passing by to clean other tables no one cleaned those plates until explicitly asked by someone and the person who was asked seemed put out by the request. Drink service was glacial - I was only asked one time if I wanted another drink during the entire service until the very end but at that point we were already done with dessert. They were out of some items but handled it poorly - 3 of the 4 children with us ordered chicken strips and asked for ranch. After about 5 minutes orlf waiting for ranch, we asked about it and were told that they were put but making some now. They never brought any to the table and never brought it up again. At dessert we asked for a scoop of vanilla for a child that is kinda picky. After waiting for that for 5 minutes, we asked and were told it was coming. Five minutes later we were told it was coming. Another 5 minutes later we were told it was coming. Finally a bowl of coffee ice cream was brought, we corrected them and only after that were we told they were out of vanilla. There were at least a few incorrect or odd food issues- Someone ordered a fillet but felt that the fat (at least in part) was poorly rendered. It was also ordered with chimichurri which did not come on it. Two people were missing sides of some kind. And that was just the people nearest me at thw table. Someone ordered a chop salad and said it tasted like it came out of a bag at the grocery store. The lobster Mac was tasty but had no pieces of lobster in it. Sea Bass and lobster Risotto was a little salty together but not terrible. We ordered two carb cakes and one had an orange sauce and the other was bright yellow (both good tasting tho) Two shrimp cocktails were ordered and one came out with an awesome dry ice experience and the other did not. And the Lava cake was not molten in the middle as expected. Bathroom issues - woman's toilet seemed uncleaned and had a very loose seat. It was also out of paper towels at about 830pm. There were also some other smaller issues that I am ignoring due to our party size. Overall: A bit disappointing for a well known high end restaurant that I had never been to but heard positive things about.

We were visiting from Pennsylvania and were really looking forward to dining at the Chart House, but unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. The service was extremely slow from start to finish. Our server seemed to have an excuse for every delay, but the issues continued throughout the meal. The mushrooms we ordered as a side didn’t arrive until we were almost finished with dinner, which made them feel like an afterthought. The steaks were just okay—certainly not what we expected for the price and reputation of the restaurant. Overall, the food was mediocre, and the service did not make up for it. We were hoping for a memorable dining experience while on vacation, but sadly this was one of the most disappointing meals of our trip. I would not rush back.
