On a clear day, the view from Chart House Dana Point extends 50 miles down the Southern California Coast all the way to La Jolla. As one of the best Dana Point restaurants with a view, Chart House is seated atop the majestic bluffs overlooking the Dana Point Harbor and the pristine azure waters of the Pacific Ocean. Simply put, Chart House is one of the most romantic restaurants in Dana Point, year round.
In the spring, the ocean comes to life with the mass migration of grey whales as they travel past Dana Point on their trip south. From our restaurant, you can view not only these majestic whales, but also dolphins and seals. Sailboats from the Yacht Club and Harbor streak across vibrant blue waters and fishing boats dot the horizon. Every July, the Chart House affords the best view in town of the magnificent fireworks set off from a barge in the Harbor. In December, holiday lights dazzle as the Boat Parade fills the waters. And all of this can be viewed from your table while enjoying the most unique menu of Prime Rib, steak and seafood Dana Point has to offer.
For the best seafood restaurant in Dana Point with an amazing happy hour and the most beautiful ocean views in Orange County - Chart House is the place to be.
My birthday dinner was cold and without any taste.
I have been eating for years and food was great, this is the first time I have terrible experience.
I don’t recommend it at all, just waste of money and time.

Wow! We just had our son's last minute wedding reception at the chart house in Dana point. We were outside on the lawn with 29 people. It was amazing. The food was fantastic, including dessert. The service was amazing. They were a tentative and took care of all of our requests. It was a beautiful evening and I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Thank you so much for adding to a beautiful occasion!! It was so easy I'm gonna do all my occasions here!!

Not really sure what to say here. We were excited to have a nice dinner for our last night on vacay. We had money to spend and found the chart house online. We also have a toddler and a teenager so of course the happy hour looked like a great option for us. I wanted the ORA salmon. My best friend wanted the king crab legs. We were ready to splurge. When we arrived they didn't ask us anything and sat us, ALONE, in the main dinning area. Literally no one was there and we were pretty confused. When we asked about the happy hour for my son to look at they said of that's over on the other side then took us over there and said, oh there's no seats but you're allowed to wait. We left, immediately.
Thankfully we are now at Coastal kitchen racking up our bill ❤️

Beyond disappointed with our anniversary dinner here, especially considering the level of dining and service people expect from Chart House.
We were seated at approximately 8:12 PM.
Our server did not come by to introduce herself until approximately 30 minutes after we were seated. At nearly the ONE-HOUR mark, we still had NO water or bread, and our drink order had only just been taken. Our appetizers were ordered around 9:12 PM and did not arrive until approximately 9:40 PM. Our entrée order was not placed until approximately 9:48 PM, and the entrées did not arrive until around 10:15–10:20 PM.
By the time our entrées arrived, I looked around and realized that we were the only guests left inside the restaurant. The restaurant was clearly empty, and employees were already speaking and moving around as they were winding down for the evening. There is absolutely nothing wrong with employees doing that, but the fact that this was happening while we were still waiting for our entrées really emphasized just how late our food had arrived. At that point, it felt as though the restaurant had essentially closed around us while we were still waiting for our meal.
Unfortunately, the timing made it difficult to enjoy the experience, and I ultimately did not eat my entrée there.
I do want to say that every employee we interacted with was pleasant and kind. However, for a restaurant at this price point and level of dining, we expected a much more attentive experience.
We spoke with the manager, Alondra, who was pleasant and did offer a $35 adjustment to the bill. I appreciated that gesture, although I was disappointed that the adjustment only covered the appetizers and drinks that we had actually consumed, rather than addressing the entrées that arrived extremely late almost 40 minutes past their closing time and ultimately could not be enjoyed as intended but instead consumed in a break room the next day.
I have also attempted to follow up by phone since our visit but have not received a return call.
We’ve also noticed at least a few other guests who described similar experiences with extremely slow service over the past several months. In those cases, the management responses appear to largely consist of thanking guests for their feedback but it doesn’t seem like anything changes or like they care to make it up to their customers. We’ve heard good things about this place but would not recommend after this experience.

My wife and I have been long-term fans of the Chart House Resturant. The location of this Dana Point Chart House is spectacular. The views are amazing. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and well appointed. But for us during our last visit, that’s where the upside ends. The food was absolutely terrible. The Caprese Salad tomatoes Were sliced so thin that they were difficult to even put on a fork. I ordered the chicken, that cost $33. I can get a better cooked chicken at the market for $10. The chicken was dry, unappetizing and completely inedible. My wife ordered the Lemongrass Shrimp. Like the chicken, the shrimp was dry, hard and clearly beyond its age to be served as human food. But to add insult to injury when the bill came, the Chart House did remove my chicken from the bill, but put a line item that said “did not like” Let’s be clear, it’s not that I didn’t like the food it’s that it was not fit for human consumption. The Chart House manager and the chef need to have more pride in their product. They can do way better.
