I went in for a very simple grocery purchase (milk, eggs, cheese, meat, lavash and croutons) this evening, but the entire checkout process was unnecessarily stressful from start to finish.
Firstly, the self-checkout system malfunctioned while I was scanning items and flagged errors that required staff assistance. I had to stop and wait for help just to continue scanning groceries. Secondly, digital coupons for milk, eggs, and cheese did not apply correctly through the app or at checkout, and each discount had to be manually corrected by staff. While scanning croutons, the barcode did not register properly and the system showed an “accept weight” prompt, which created another interruption. Lavash was on member price discount, but again it did not work at checkout. After payment, I initially thought the milk coupon had not been applied and went back to staff for clarification. Then, while I was exiting, the shopping cart locking mechanism activated at the exit. Another customer had to help me to move the cart to clear the exit. I don’t know where I did wrong, it was a chain of errors and very frustrating.

The Safeway at 4309 Clayton Road has the best butcher ever! His name is Brandon. He consistently goes the extra mile for his customers. He is always so helpful.
Just this Friday, during the $5 Friday sale, we got to the store around 9:30 in the evening. We were after the $5 lobster tails but the meat counter was closed. While shopping we saw Brandon leaving the store.
I said hello and that l was sorry we missed him as we wanted a handful of the lobsters. He said yeah the meat counter closes before 8. He then told us come with me. Brandon opened the butcher shop back up and packaged up 6 lobsters for us! You just dont find employees like him anymore.
Thank you Brandon for all you do, you are an asset for Safeway and a blessing to your customers!

I had a disappointing experience at Safeway while trying to buy flowers for Mother’s Day. The flowers were displayed in a bag marked around $17.99 but when they were scanned at checkout, by Manager Leslie. She said the actual price for the flowers supposed to be much higher and refused to sell them at the displayed price.
I understand mistakes can happen in stores, but customers should not be blamed for pricing or display errors made by employees. What disappointed me most was the way the situation was handled. There was no attempt to help, honor the displayed price, or provide good customer service.
This left a very negative impression during what should have been a pleasant Mother’s Day shopping experience.
