I came in intending to order a birthday cake for my wife's birthday, but the attendant was extremely unwelcoming. When I asked if there was a cake menu, she vaguely gestured toward a binder without offering any assistance. As I began looking through it, she walked away and called over her shoulder that I could let her know when I was ready. Her tone came across as very dismissive, as though I was inconveniencing her. She didn't ask what the occasion was, if I had anything particular in mind, what kind of cake I was looking for, or offer any guidance about the ordering process. I've never ordered a cake from Vons before, so I was hoping for at least some basic assistance. I understand employees don't have to be overly cheerful, but I expected a basic level of customer service and interest in helping a customer make a purchase. The interaction made me feel so unwelcome that I ultimately just walked away without ordering the cake. Unfortunately, what should have been a simple and pleasant experience planning something special for my wife's birthday left me feeling like my business wasn't wanted.

I've previously waited >1 hour for my flu & Covid shot at the pharmacy when I had a scheduled appointment and they had a nurse administering the vaccinations. Today I circled back to the deli three separate occasions to pick up a dozen chicken strips but couldn't get a single person to assist me - it was faster for me to go across the street to SaveMart and purchase them. I like that they have self check-out. The individuals stocking the items in the aisles however are always willing to help.
