We visit Topanga Mall fairly often, and grabbing something from the food court or one of the delis is usually part of the fun for us. My wife and I have had plenty of enjoyable casual meals there, so we went into La Vaca Brazilian Grill expecting another satisfying experience.
Unfortunately, this time it was quite the opposite. What was supposed to be a nice food break during our visit ended up being a real disappointment.
Since the buffet and BBQ are sold by weight, our container came to exactly 2.00 lbs at $17.65 per pound — $35.30 for the food alone. With one glass-bottle Fanta, tax, and a small tip, our final bill came to $43.86.
At that price point, we expected the quality and flavor to justify the cost. Unfortunately, for us, they simply didn’t.
We selected a variety of items, especially different meats, hoping to enjoy a mix of flavors. Instead, the overall experience was surprisingly inconsistent. Some bites were overly salty, others too spicy, and some had an unpleasant bitterness. Certain items felt greasy, while some of the meat was unexpectedly dry. Most disappointing of all, the overall flavor and texture of the meats simply did not taste right to us.
What made the experience even more disappointing was that the food actually looked quite promising. There was plenty of variety, and with a Brazilian-style buffet and BBQ, we expected to discover several enjoyable flavors. Unfortunately, for us, the presentation and the actual eating experience were two very different things.
Food is subjective, of course, and someone else may enjoy these flavors much more than we did. We also understand that a pay-by-weight concept can become expensive quickly. But when two pounds of buffet food alone cost $35.30, the quality has to be there. For us, the combination of inconsistent flavors, dry meat, greasiness, and the final price made the value very difficult to justify.
We left genuinely disappointed, especially because stopping for something good to eat while shopping at Topanga Mall has usually been an enjoyable little tradition for us.

Food is always subjective, and this review reflects our personal experience on this particular visit. Unfortunately, for us, the quality simply didn’t match the price.
Sadly, this one really missed the mark for us.
