  This was the most disgusting and dissapointing dinner of my life. This place has so many issues I'll start with the menu. They basically have one sauce that they put on everything along with way too much garlic. I ordered the seafood trio and asked that they not put garlic in the sauce. The server said they could do that. When my food came out there was no sauce, instead of the regular vegetables, they gave me shriveled, brown green beans that tasted rotten. The salmon was thick and dry like chicken, the scallops were gummy. At that point I sent the food back. The server was even surprised at what I was served and tried to get me new food but I declined. The server was nice but we sat for 20 minutes before being served and another 15 to get wine. My partner got a roll that was literally mayo, avocado, and crab with no flavor. After that we finished our drinks and left. One roll, two glasses of wine and a small salad, almost 70 bucks. Save your money and time, this place is terrible.

  For many years I went to "Skates" and always loved it, then I left the Bay Area for 6 years, and when I came back last year, I knew I wanted to return to this place, and to see the wonderful sunset. The place and the food are great, except that I miss the focaccia bread they used to served. Now, they give you a lame garlic bread, but it's not awful. Still, it would be wonderful if they'd bring the focaccia back. :-). The food is excellent, however, I think they're a bit understaffed, and that makes service slow. I've noticed it the last couple of times I've been there. I am planning to go back tonight, so I will update you afterwards. Regardless, this is a place that I recommend. Great cocktails too, and the view is unique and breathtaking!

  We had a wonderful family get-together at Skates on the Bay in Berkeley when my son was visiting from out of town. He came with his wife, and my daughter joined us as well, so it was a really nice chance for all of us to sit down, enjoy a meal, and spend quality time together. The food was delicious. I especially enjoyed the oven-roasted crab and the artichoke dip - both were flavorful and made great dishes to share at the table. Everything added to a relaxed, enjoyable meal. The views are truly amazing, especially on a clear evening. Looking out at the water made the whole experience feel even more special, and the atmosphere was calm, welcoming, and perfect for a family visit. Skates on the Bay is a great choice for good food, beautiful scenery, and a pleasant time with the people you love.

  We visited on Saturday, August 15th, with a reservation at 8:00 PM for a special dinner with overseas guests. Although we arrived early, we weren’t seated until 15–20 minutes after our reservation time. We understood the delay given how packed the restaurant was, but unfortunately, the service significantly degraded once we were seated. While the hostess who brought our water and drinks was very pleasant, the servers delivering our food were exceptionally careless. Plates were shoved onto the table so aggressively that food spilled out. Having dined here before with great experiences, this was embarrassing and far below the standard we expected for our guests.

  Lunch at Skates for our Anniversary... the staff recognized the special occasion, and we were given a table for two, dead-center, looking out across the Bay at the Golden Gate. Beautiful day, Gorgeous view, and Perfect atmosphere. We did cocktails... hers an 'Dragon Fizz' mocktail, and then a couple of entrees... My rockfish was moist with a seasoned finish, her pesto salmon pasta was flavorful and robust, and the generous portion meant that lunch is on hand for tomorrow! Carrie, our server, took great care of us throughout... and brought dessert with a candle for the occasion. We've had Crème Brûlée on three continents; and Skates' version was one of, if not THE best ever. It all made for a memorable day...
