Dim sum is apart of our Bay area heritage. San Francisco has the oldest chinese-american community in the country but the East Bay has always had great dim sum options. It's exciting to see the new generation of dim sum and Chinese restaurants blossoming in Alameda as folks move away from Oakland Chinatown to nearby areas. The shumai was absolutely perfect. Giant (twice the normal size) dumplings perhaps inspired by take away counter bakeries (usually cheep with think wrappers a style that evolved to satisfy dinners on the go) with the refinement of smaller more traditional versions from great tea houses like Peony and etc Traditional foods change slowly in order to hold on to and honor tradition. East Ocean does it their way but anyone familiar with good dim sum will agree - don't miss out on eating at East Ocean if you love dim sum!

Came here after visiting USS Hornet. Excellent, quick and friendly service; clean bathrooms - that says a lot about a Chinese restaurant. The seven of us - four adults, three kids - enjoyed the dim sum. Walked by the bar at the front door, very nice selection of drinks available.

Our family of 10 came for dinner. We ordered a number of dim sum dishes. The gei was the best part. The Peking duck did not come with cucumbers and the duck itself was overcooked, which means it tasted like liver. The duck was cut into large chucks with bones in them rather than in thin slices that would fit better in their steamed buns. We felt these buns were inferior to the pancakes. The watery spinach was overcooked and uncut. The jellyfish was salty and spicy, lacking vinegar or any sweetness to balance the flavor. The stuffed mushrooms were OK. The tofu with shrimp paste in black bean sauce was good. We received a complimentary red bean soup and service was excellent. The venue is clean and spacious.
