We started at Challenger School - Berryessa with our son two years ago, and he'll be moving on to Kindergarten later this year. From the outset, we loved everything about this school: the atmosphere, the teachers, and the office staff. It provides the right environment for young minds, with a great balance of academics, arts, music, and sports.
Since joining, we've seen consistent progress in our son's academics. Kudos to his Pre-K teachers, Mrs. Prerna and Mrs. Preeti, who laid a strong foundation in phonics, blending, and math. We really appreciate how they nurture the kids in their care.
One thing that stood out most for us was the regular, thoughtful feedback from his teachers. As parents, it gives us real peace of mind knowing our son is in such good hands. We highly recommend this school!
As the school year comes to a close, we wanted to share our gratitude after our first year at Challenger. Before finding this community, we tried 3 other schools and daycares (including Bright Horizons), and Challenger has been, by far, the most positive and rewarding experience for our family.
Our son, William, started in August 2025 at just under 3 years old. He was incredibly energetic and easily distracted, but Ms. Shivani and Ms. Sonali consistently met him exactly where he was. Under their patient guidance, he has transformed from a busy toddler into a confident young learner who can follow directions, read simple sentences, and understand basic math concepts. We were recently touched to learn that his teachers even provided quiet, extra review sessions before and after class—a testament to their incredible dedication. Beyond academics, the structure and routine he learned at school have beautifully supported his emotional maturity, making a wonderful difference in our home life as well.
Despite Challenger’s reputation for rigorous academics, William genuinely loves going to school every day and never feels stressed. The program has nurtured his independence and built his confidence while fostering a true love for learning. We credit this entirely to the campus culture; every teacher takes the time to truly understand each student’s unique personality, strengths, and areas needing extra support. This level of individualized care, patience, and attention is unlike anything we experienced elsewhere.
A sincere thank you to Ms. Shivani and Ms. Sonali. We feel incredibly lucky that you were William’s very first teachers. Thank you also to Ms. Jackie, Ms. Anna, Ms. Tina, and the entire office team for your seamless communication, warmth, and constant support.
Finally, a special shout-out to the staff and parents who manage the morning drop-off line with the efficiency of an F1 pit crew. It genuinely makes life easier for working parents and starts our mornings with less chaos.

Finding a place that handles both academics and fun so well is a lifesaver. As a parent of a 6-year-old, I love that they help with homework every day. It makes our evenings at home so much easier and stress-free.
Their summer camp is always a blast, too. The kids get a wide range of activities, great field trips, and fun events that keep them busy and happy. One thing that stands out is how they include parents in all their celebrations. It makes the whole family feel welcome and part of the community.
The staff are extremely professional and do a wonderful job. If you are looking for quality childcare in San Jose or the Berryessa area, I highly recommend them!
The academy here is very solid. My kid enjoyed studying here very much!

We visited this school for a scheduled interview/open house with our toddler. While waiting, our child briefly stood on a chair to look around. A staff member told him firmly that standing on chairs was not appropriate, which we understand as a safety rule.
However, shortly after we were seated for the interview, the same staff member stated that she had “already seen what she needed to see,” implying that our child was not a fit, before any meaningful interaction or observation took place. During the short interview, our child asked for water, and we were questioned on whether he could sit calmly without being given his bottle, which felt more evaluative than supportive for a child of this age.
The experience felt rushed and somewhat dismissive, with limited opportunity for the child to warm up or for parents to ask questions. Families whose children need time to adjust to new environments or who value a more child-centered, developmentally sensitive approach may want to keep this in mind when visiting.
