Our family was at LePort Montessori Huntington Harbor for nearly three years. Our oldest daughter started there in November 2022, and there were teachers whom we genuinely loved, particularly some of the infant teachers. Unfortunately, our experience with the administration was very different, and ultimately I would not recommend the school. One incident in particular seriously damaged my trust in the administration. During drop-off, I accidentally tapped another parent's vehicle while parking. I told him to contact his insurance. During the interaction that followed, while I was holding my infant daughter next to our van, the other parent drove extremely close to us; close enough that I had to fall back into the van to get out of his path. I can't know what his intention was, but I felt threatened enough that I reported the incident to the Huntington Beach Police Department that morning. I also immediately reported it to LePort. My wife and I subsequently met with the Head of School Fatima Asghar because our primary concern wasn't the minor parking accident; it was how the school would respond to potentially aggressive behavior involving parents and children around the campus. We asked LePort to consider several measures, including clearer policies concerning aggressive parent behavior and parking-lot incidents, security cameras covering the parking lot and entrances, and speaking with the other parent once he had been identified to get his account of what happened. To LePort's credit, they did initially take some action. The school sent a parking-lot safety reminder, and the Regional Director Peter Mali later told us via email that the security guard would be stationed in the parking lot during peak drop-off and pickup times. He also said our suggestion for stronger handbook language concerning areas surrounding the campus would be passed along for consideration. Unfortunately, from what I observed, the additional security presence was either short-lived or ineffective. Parking disputes continued, and I regularly saw the security guard standing by without intervening. LePort declined some of the other measures we suggested, including cameras and collecting vehicle information from parents. Most disappointing to me, I never received any indication that the administration had spoken with the other parent about what happened, even after we provided enough information for the school to identify him. I wasn't expecting LePort to determine whether a crime had occurred. I knew that was a matter for the police. I expected the school to take a serious interest in alleged aggressive conduct by one member of its community toward another parent holding an infant. The response left me without confidence that the administration would handle a similar situation the way I would want a school caring for my children to handle it. That experience reflected my larger frustration with LePort. We had some wonderful teachers, but too often I came away from interactions with the administration feeling that the individual child or family was secondary to the interests of the organization. We also had concerns about the after-school program. There were times when we'd arrive to find our child being supervised by someone we'd never met before, and on multiple occasions I was not asked for identification by staff who did not appear to know me. As a parent, that concerned me. Both of our kids have moved to a different school and having another Montessori school to compare against has really put our LePort experience into perspective. We spent nearly three years there, so this isn't an opinion formed from a brief experience. There were teachers at LePort whom we genuinely appreciated and who cared deeply about our children. I'm grateful for them. But ultimately, our experiences with the administration and our concerns about how safety was handled outweighed those positives. Knowing what I know now, I would not choose LePort again.

My son has been enrolled in Leport Montessori since the infant program and is currently in the toddler class with Ms Munjee. We are absolutely thrilled with this school and the wonderful care our son receives every day. Miss Munjee has supported us every step of the way, providing invaluable guidelines, instructions, and strategies to ensure we mirror the same successful practices at home. Thanks to their expert guidance for us as first-time parents, our son adapted remarkably fast and became fully potty trained in just a matter of weeks. He is now highly confident in reading his body signals, and is becoming much more independent. We are incredibly grateful for the dedicated attention and empowering environment that made this major milestone such a smooth experience for our whole family!

My child has been enrolled at LePort since the infant program. He had Mrs. Sheikh as his infant teacher and she did amazing to prepare him for the Toddler program. She is loving and no nonsense at the same time. That's the best combination of you ask me. The teachers who care and push you to be better at what you do. Before the transition to the Toddler program Mrs. Sheikh paused and ended up recommending a different teacher instead of the originally assigned teacher. She took the time to consider my son's personality and thought about whose teaching style would best suit him and allow him to thrive. This really speaks volumes to the amount of care and thought that goes into each stage of your child's journey at LePort. My son is currently in Ms. Arzate's toddler class. I wanted to take a moment to recognize her and thank her for all that she does. She not only educates our children, but us parents as well, similar to Mrs. Sheikh. The moment that I appreciated the most is when I came in complaining about everything that my son was doing "wrong" and she stopped me and had me reflect on what I was saying in front of my child. During the moment, I wanted to cry and felt like in some way I had failed my son as a Mom. This honest moment, helped me step back and re-evaluate my interactions with my son. I didn't want him to feel bad like he was always doing something wrong, when in fact he's doing really great. I want him to know that I see his progress and that I am really proud of him and that he should be proud of himself. The next day, on the way to pick up our son, my husband and I were talking about my husband's concerned about wet events in public. I thought about the conversation that I had with Ms. Arzate. I said to him that this may be a year long journey and we can't keep our son exclusively at home or school for a full year. I reminded him that originally our son wasn't going to start night potty training until 6-8 weeks of daytime potty training. At two weeks into daytime potty training, Ms. Arzate's already felt that he was ready to start night time potty training. It was quite the accomplishment and I wanted us to recognize that. We ended taking our son out for dinner and at the end of the meal, my son stopped what he was doing and started to say "pee pee". He held it in until I could rush him to the car and peed in his travel potty. Later, before bed, he got up to go to the bathroom. I expected him to wait for me in the hallway or bathroom in the dark. However, he got up on the stool, turned on the bathroom lights then sat and peed in the potty without being prompted. The culmination of all the hard work by the teachers is starting show through. I am in awe and incredibly grateful for the teachers and staff at LePort of the wonderful work they do to prepare our children for the future. Don't let the older facility look fool you into going somewhere that looks newer. It's the teachers, staff and community that make LePort an amazing place that you can trust to send your child. Update: LePort’s afterschool care program is absolutely amazing, thanks to Ms. Patton and Ms. Butler. They embody everything you want in Montessori guides: they are kind, calm, gentle, and deeply loving, but stern when necessary. My child loves them so much that he never wants to leave at pickup time because he's having too much fun with his teachers and friends. Ms. Patton brings an incredible amount of creativity to the classroom, beautifully decorating their space with student art. Instead of basic coloring, she introduces wonderful sensory bins and helps the toddlers build skills like using scissors. I am always surprised by the unique crafts brought home, especially the handprint and footprint art. As a working parent, these are keepsakes I always want to document but never get around to, making them an absolute treasure. Thank you, Ms. Patton and Ms. Butler, for taking such exceptional care of our little one!

Le Port Huntington Harbor has been nothing short of amazing. My son is in the Spanish Immersion program and he loves it! His first teacher, Mrs. Jaramillo is amazingggg! I enjoy still seeing her around campus and at events. His current teacher, Mrs. Nava is fantastic!!! She puts a lot of care into teaching and has patience like you would not believe. The school puts on great events for the kiddos and families. We are very grateful for this school. :)
