Do not waste your money at this location—they are fake, dishonest, and completely lack human empathy. Zero 🌟 I am incredibly frustrated with my recent experience at the JCPenney Salon on Friars Road (located inside the Fashion Valley Mall). I originally scheduled a simple root touch-up appointment. I had to reschedule my initial visits twice, which their staff happily accommodated over the phone. However, once I arrived, things took a turn for the worse. My stylist, Manush, convinced me to do an overall color instead of just the root touch-up, claiming I had grey hair at the bottom. We agreed on a light brown mocha, and she upsold me on an expensive hair treatment and a haircut. I trusted her expertise and paid for everything. The next day, I realized my hair was incredibly dark—the exact opposite of the lighter look I explicitly asked for. When I returned to the salon to speak with the manager, Tina, she was dismissive and claimed I had "agreed" to the color Manush used. Shockingly, Tina even admitted to me that if she had done my hair, she would have lightened it first before applying the color—proving they completely botched the process the first time. Tina scheduled me to come back a week later so she could personally redo my hair and fix the mistake. On the day of my redo appointment, I woke up suffering from severe mental health anxiety and could not leave my house. I called Tina at 1:45 PM to let her know about my 2:00 PM appointment. She told me I needed to be there by 2:15 PM or it would be "difficult" to reschedule. When I explained that I was having a debilitating anxiety attack and couldn't make it, her tone completely changed. Tina flatly refused to help me reschedule the corrective fix, weaponizing my previous appointment changes against me—even though her staff had happily authorized those earlier reschedules before I ever came in and paid them full price. When I pointed out that I had already paid for a service they ruined, Tina showed zero empathy for my mental health, resulting in a shouting match before she hung up on me.I found myself fighting and arguing with people who are only out there to take your money, not to give you a smile. I only get my hair colored once every year or two. For Manush to completely skip a vital process without explaining it to me, and for the staff to happily reschedule me only to use it against me later, is completely unacceptable.Honestly, I am glad it happened this way because I ultimately saved myself. Why get a redo from a place that already proved they are not awesome at what they do? God saved me from ever having Tina’s hands in my hair. Do not trust them.

I gave this JCPenney Hair Salon THREE separate chances, all with scheduled appointments, and while some staff members were kind, the salon overall felt extremely disorganized and poorly managed. The first appointment was a mess before I even sat down. I booked the service expecting it to cost around $100 based on what I had been told beforehand. Once I arrived, they suddenly changed the price to nearly $300 and then told me they couldn’t even do my hair because they “didn’t have the materials” and the process would take too long. My appointment was at 3 PM, the service was supposedly 4 hours long, and although the salon closed at 7 PM, they said the stylists were leaving at 6 PM that day. When I asked why nobody informed me beforehand, they said they did call, but it showed up as “Unknown Caller,” so naturally I didn’t answer. I then asked why they didn’t leave a voicemail or message, and they admitted their phone system doesn’t allow them to. Instead of making sure I actually got the information, they still let me drive there and waste my time. The second appointment honestly wasn’t nearly as bad, and my hairstylist herself was nice (hence the two stars). My issue was more with how poorly managed everything felt toward closing time. I explained how much length I wanted trimmed, but more was cut than I expected. While my stylist was still finishing my hair, the salon lights were literally turned off on us because they were closing. My stylist actually had to go turn the lights back on to continue doing my hair. The whole situation felt rushed and uncomfortable, and my hair wasn’t even blow-dried properly by the end because everyone seemed focused on leaving. The third appointment completely pushed me over the edge. I waited 30 minutes past my appointment time before anyone could even take me. Then after finally sitting down, my stylist said she was having stomach issues and couldn’t continue. I understand emergencies happen, and to be fair they did check whether another stylist was available, but nobody else could take me. My problem is that after wasting my time AGAIN, there was absolutely no effort to make things right. No discount, no compensation, not even a serious attempt to apologize beyond telling me to “book tomorrow.” Then the pricing issue happened AGAIN. I was originally quoted around $120, but suddenly it jumped back up to almost $300 because I apparently “have too much hair.” One stylist lifted my hair and said with attitude that my hair was thick, that there was “so much work to do,” and that if they just added color it would “turn green or ash” and they would need to do my roots too. I stopped her and explained that I NEVER planned on doing my roots in the first place. The attitude throughout the conversation was completely unnecessary and dismissive. At that point, I walked out. The constant last-minute price changes, poor communication, overbooking, rushed atmosphere, and lack of professionalism made this one of the most frustrating salon experiences I’ve had. I understand hair services can take time and prices can vary, but customers should not have to deal with this level of disorganization after booking multiple appointments.

I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Homira today at JCPenney Salon on a whim, and wow, what a gem! With over 40 years of experience, she knew exactly how to handle my dark Latina hair. I’ve tried many high-end salons before and always struggled with brassy tones, but Mayra absolutely nailed it! The highlight placement is perfection—giving me a beautiful, sun-kissed, golden-ish glow. Highly recommend her if you want someone who truly understands how to get it just right! It was also refreshing how professional she was, great conversationalist, while enjoying a coffee and biscotti. It was really nice bday treat and self care. Thank you Homira. ☺️🥳
