I’m not from L.A.—I’m from the South—and I loved the service I used to receive at the JCPenney Salon in Pine Bluff, AR. So naturally, I assumed I’d get the same level of professionalism and care here in Culver City. What a mistake. That assumption couldn’t have been more wrong. I called to schedule my very first appointment and asked for a consultation beforehand—something any stylist serious about hair health should welcome. Instead, I was treated like a burden. The first person I spoke to sounded irritated from the start. Then, mid-conversation while I was explaining my hair goals, she just handed the phone off—no heads-up, no proper handoff—just suddenly, “Hi, this is someone else—she had to get back to her client. This the manager... what do you need?” That was it. Cold. Dismissive. Unprofessional. At that point, I declined to move forward. If that's how they welcome a new client—especially with the manager being the one to carry that energy—there’s no way I’d trust them with my hair. I have long, healthy, natural hair down my back, and I fully intend to keep it that way by avoiding salons like this. It’s really sad. I always get excited to see Black women working in salons because I expect understanding and care when it comes to thick, coarse, textured hair. But too often—like in this case—the professionalism is just not there. The vibes were cold, the tone was dismissive, and the lack of basic courtesy was appalling. And it made sense when I saw the place practically empty in person. That kind of energy will drive away potential loyal clients. Respect and professionalism should never be reserved for “familiar faces” or personal referrals only—especially not at a national chain salon. I truly hope they get it together, because the bar is on the floor and still being missed.

Overpaid for twists. Than the the stylist runs after me and tries to shame me because I didn’t tip. Rude and unprofessional.

I hate writing a negative comment but I went there for a relaxer and my hair has been breaking off since. I don't believe they use a neutralizer shampoo or conditioner. My hair always turn green and the stylist comments on it. I been doing my own relaxer for years because of dry hair. I dont know what shampoos and conditioners they use but it's not for my hair. Since I do my own hair I buy the best shampoos and conditioners possible and never had a problem in the years I been doing my own hair. I was going here for years with brittle hair. And she itemized everything done as if she was not going to wash the relaxer out of my hair. It cost 135.00 plus I gave her a 15.00 tip150.00 for a relaxer, and my hair is breaking. I am washing it every other day with a neutralizer shampoo to stop the processing. I want go back.
