- APAbby PerkinsOct 15, 20261.0Horrible experience! I went in looking for transmission fluid that I couldn’t find and asked two employees for help. I explained that a mechanic had sent me the exact product I needed and even showed them a photo of it. Instead of simply helping me, they immediately asked whether the mechanic was a man or a woman. Once they found out she was female, they proceeded to make jokes about her, mock her, and belittle her expertise. After I checked out, one of the employees handed me a paper receipt and said it was “just in case your ‘mechanic’ friend didn’t know what she was talking about.” This interaction was extremely sexist, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. I went in as a customer looking for help, not to listen to employees disrespect a qualified female mechanic based solely on her gender. The fact that I had already shown them a photo of the exact product I needed made their behavior even more ridiculous. Customers deserve respectful service, and no one should have to deal with this kind of treatment simply because their gender.

Apparently, the gender of the mechanic telling you what to get matters to them, rather than simply focusing on providing good customer service and helping identify/find what is needed. There is no excuse for treating customers differently based on gender. I expected basic professionalism and assistance, but the experience was disappointing and completely unnecessary.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
