I changed my oil and brought the old oil back to dispose of it, and the guy at the front told me not to worry about it — he’d take care of everything himself. In 10 years of changing oil in five cars and bringing it back to multiple locations, this is the first time someone offered to empty it for me. The last place I went to, the Doylestown location, basically kicked me out and wouldn’t let me dump the old oil because their tank was full. I only asked a question because the salesperson who sold me the oil earlier that day told me I could bring it back to dump it out.

Brakes work by using friction to turn kinetic energy into heat. There are two designs: drum brakes (older), and disc brakes (newer). Both use hydraulic pressure to move a piston outward. In disc brakes, the piston is located inside a caliper that houses brake pads and fits over the rotor. The friction lining on the pads makes contact with the rotor to slow the vehicle. In drum brakes, the piston moves two curved shoes lined with friction material against the inside of the brake drum.
