I can't recommend Avenue Motors based on my experience. If a shop can't reliably complete a straightforward tire replacement as requested, it makes me question how carefully they handle more complex repairs. Full story below:
I recently moved to the area and was looking for a mechanic I could trust. I chose Avenue Motors because of their positive reviews and brought my car in for a simple job: replacing both rear tires after the driver's-side rear tire was punctured. The object causing the puncture was still lodged in the tire, but it still held air. I also specifically asked the shop to keep the passenger-side rear tire because I wanted to keep it.
When I picked up my car, I noticed the new tires had been installed on the front instead of the rear. The exact opposite of what I had requested. Since nothing was mentioned when I received my keys, I assumed they had replaced the rear tires and then rotated them as a courtesy. I accepted that explanation and went on with my day.
A few days later, the driver's-side rear tire went flat. When I inspected it, I found it was still the original punctured tire, with the object still lodged in it. In other words, the tire I had asked them to replace had never been replaced and there were no tires rotated like I had assumed.
I called the shop to explain what I found and asked whether they could install one of the undamaged tires that they removed from the front of the car. I also pointed out that I was now missing the passenger-side rear tire that I had specifically asked them to keep.
The explanation I received was that the front tires had been dry-rotted and had bubbles, so they decided those tires could not be reused. However, none of this was communicated to me before or when I picked up the car. I wasn't shown the condition of those tires, provided any photos, or asked for approval before work outside the original request was performed.
During the conversation, the shop stated that the tires had been rotated. However, the punctured rear tire remained in the same position on the vehicle and was never replaced, which is why I called the shop in the first place.
Rather than acknowledging the inconvenience, they offered to inspect the punctured tire to determined if it could be repaired, for an additional charge. While I understand businesses charge for labor, I was disappointed that there was no acknowledgment of the time and frustration caused by what appears to have been a mistake or, at minimum, a breakdown in communication.
My takeaway from this experience is that the shop does not clearly communicate changes to the work performed, did not obtain my approval before deviating from my request, and did not take ownership of a situation that could have been resolved more professionally. For those reasons, I won't be returning.
