Ignition interlock device installations usually take 1-2 hours at your local Official Intoxalock Location, depending on the make and model of your vehicle. You can either wait for the installation to be complete in a waiting area or can drop off your vehicle for pick-up later.

Depending on which state you live in, you will need to have your device calibrated every 30 to 180 days. These calibrations make sure your device accurately reads and records your breath alcohol concentration with every sample you provide.

Removing your ignition interlock or breathalyzer device is easy. Your installer will remove the device and will mail it back to Intoxalock for you. It's important that only your Official Intoxalock installer disconnect your ignition interlock device.

Upon install your company sent the wrong device twice and charged me to sign a new contract because your companies mistakes. Most of the time getting a representative i couldn't understand anyways. Horrible. And charged and administrative closing fee. ! Absolutely theft ! After paying 150 to remove the obviously abused and recycled unit that I "leased" . Still smelled like cigarettes from the last person and I dont even smoke! I should get that fee returned to me. Disgusting, that administrative fee is a slap in th face after being kicked by the process. Like one last jab from a petty ex. Unnecessary. No Q.A. 👎 who checks this stuff. Wish No stars Was an option. Boooo!

It went smoothly. They were very professional. I am satisfied with their work. The actual device is kind of confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it it becomes very easy. It does require retests while you are actually driving. It feels kind of dangerous. But I’m sure you can pull over then test. It’s kind of scary though. I don’t want to mess up.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intoxalock Ignition Interlock

How does an interlock device work?

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a small breathalyzer installed in your vehicle to prevent it from starting if alcohol is detected on your breath. Before driving, you'll blow into the device. If your breath alcohol concentration (BrAC) is below the programmed limit, the car starts. Periodic retests occur during your trip to ensure continued compliance. To read more on Intoxalock, you can read our ignition interlock device guide.

What is the cost of an ignition interlock device?

The installation of an ignition interlock device, often called a car breathalyzer, typically costs between $70 and $150. This one-time fee is paid at the start of your lease and covers the service center's labor to install the device in your vehicle.
