I want to formally express my dissatisfaction with West Escondido Automotive.
They serviced my 80 year-old mother’s car recently. It was not a good experience for her, which explains why I am writing this review. Oh, and believe me, I was livid on the phone with this shop for how they disregarded how this impacted my mother. No sympathy.
After paying approximately $1,800 for cooling-system repairs, we picked up the vehicle with the understanding that the issue had been properly repaired and tested. Shortly afterward, the vehicle displayed an overheating warning on the freeway. Any reasonable driver seeing a serious engine temperature warning would immediately pull over to avoid catastrophic engine damage, which is exactly what we did. We pulled over on interstate 15 and were sitting along the side of the road stranded. Not a pleasant place to be if you’re an 80 year-old mother. I got my mother out of the car and had her sit on a 5 gallon plastic container away from the right of way to make sure she’s safe.
After the vehicle was returned to the shop, communication became inconsistent. My original service advisor, Dylan, never followed up with me, and I instead received a call later from Danny. During that conversation, the focus seemed to shift toward debating whether the vehicle had “technically” broken down rather than acknowledging the fact that a major warning occurred immediately after repair work was completed.
I understand the issue may have ultimately been related to air trapped in the cooling system rather than full engine overheating, but that still raises concerns about whether the system was fully bled, tested, and verified prior to release.
I was also surprised to learn the vehicle had been driven approximately 40 miles during subsequent testing, run out of fuel, and that I was then asked to cover the fuel cost. Regardless of the amount, charging a customer for fuel consumed during extended post-repair diagnostics — especially after the vehicle had to be retrieved from the freeway — reflects poor judgment and customer handling.
What is most disappointing is not the mechanical issue itself, but the overall handling of the situation: the lack of proactive communication, the shifting of responsibility back onto the customer, and the feeling that legitimate concerns were being minimized instead of professionally addressed.
I hope ownership will review this situation internally and reconsider whether this reflects the level of customer service and accountability your shop intends to provide.
After having several cars serviced at this automotive group, I’ve come to the conclusion, it’s a systemic problem, and probably related to the owner being a greedy…well, you know what I mean
