This photographer was safe to work with in person, and has amazing skills with photography. Nice to work with in person, and has a studio they use with plenty of props, and equipment /backdrops for professional photoshoots. They are good at directing as well. It was great to get practice for modeling, good for beginners wanting to get themselves out there with trade shoots. I recieved alot of the pictures back in a timely manner and they are talented at editing. However, I found it dishonest and unprofessional that they used some of the photos they took of me to crop me out of the background, and put it onto an ai generated background... they did not get my prior consent to do this, and didn't consider opposing views surrounding the ethics of ai use for images let alone the fact that it just looks horrible. I am also an artist so i do not agree with ai taking art from others and people calling it their own, to me that is theft and someone else worked harder than writing a prompt, it is a cheat plain and simple. When i let them know that I cannot get on board with the use of ai, especially it being myself as a subject, they told me that they can just put the cut out of me onto a plain white background so that I can put my own background onto it or have someone else do it. I found this to be disrespectful, and lazy. I was very upset and disappointed in this- Then to see them making other great looking portraits of other models, without ugly ai backgrounds and posting their pictures to their photography page that they're super proud of was just a slap in the face. Never once posted any of mine.
And being that I was working full time, while being a part time student in college I found it hard to find time to create a background that I wanted with my modeling photos and when I asked this photographer months later, if he could end up putting these pictures onto a respectable background, they ignored me completely and I would have been willing to pay them for that work. Seems they are just too busy to bother with me.
I realize that their backdrops are their own, and that they thought putting my modeling photos (untouched by ai) onto an ai background would be ok, but that is still associating my modeling and my portfolio with something I believe is unethical. It is a trade shoot, meaning both parties can use it however they like but not consulting me about using something I dont think looks good and is unethical in practice was simply inconsiderate. They had the intention of doing this, and intentionally did not disclose this to me prior. I felt this lack of disclosure is very unfair to the other party involved. Their talent is being undersold by cheapening it with ai in my opinion. i did have a fun /good experience working with them in person and I did recieve some of my modeling photos (without ai involved to my knowledge) and they looked great. But this experience with the other photos set me off and steered me away from wanting to work with this person again if it meant that half of my photos would be unfinished and not usable for a portfolio.
