This was my first time checking this rodeo out for the July 4th, 250th celebration. I was not disappointed. Lots of Bronc riding, roping and barrel racing and getting to see so many horses out riding all at once is very cool to watch. If you live in AZ, you need to check this out at least once. Its a lot of fun for everyone of all ages. I would recommend getting your tickets like a month in advance or so. They sell out quick !

I was disappointed with our experience at the Prescott Rodeo and won't be returning.
One of the biggest concerns was the treatment of the animals. Many of them were standing in the hot sun all day with little to no shade, which was upsetting to see. As an animal lover, I expected better.
The venue also wasn't very family-friendly. Other than the grandstands, there was very little shaded seating. My child became overstimulated by the extremely loud speakers in the stands, so we had to walk around to find a quieter place to take a break. Unfortunately, there were no peaceful areas with seating where families could escape the noise.
I was also surprised by the amount of religious and political messaging during the event. The commentators made statements that felt like Christian nationalism, and there was a prayer thanking Jesus for our freedoms. Regardless of anyone's personal beliefs, I don't think a public event should make attendees feel like one religion is being promoted. The United States was founded on the principle of religious freedom, and I would have preferred the event remain welcoming to people of all faiths and beliefs.
Finally, my child was very upset watching the calf roping events, especially seeing young calves being chased, roped, and thrown to the ground. It was difficult for them to watch and left them feeling sad.
Overall, this was not the family-friendly experience we were hoping for. Between the lack of shade, limited quiet spaces, concerns about animal welfare, and the religious messaging, we won't be attending again.

Welcome back to the things that made this Country great. Taming horses, catching your animals, going great distances fast. It's a wonderful event. But bring a seat cushion. My 2026 backside cried foul.
