If you’re looking for a good nights rest, good luck finding it here. I definitely couldn’t.
This is night 2 (and luckily the last one) at this hotel and so far, this is what I’ve experienced:
- staff won’t let you eat outside food (a bagel) in the lobby despite ordering drinks, while waiting for the room to be ready
- I found several hairs and a note from a former guest in my “cleaned” room
- won’t accept the IHG bonus program for this stay because of group booking
- fire alarm went off in the late evening/night on night 1
- fire alarm went off again at 03:00A on night 1 (there was no fire!)
- just now as I tried to fall asleep, somebody repeatedly attempted to get access to my room (opened the door, ready to confront the person and it was someone without shoes on and disheveled looking, mumbling weird stuff) - reception wouldn’t pick up the phone when trying to reach them to report this incident
- other people in my travel party got working keycards to already inhabited rooms
- upon my arrival earlier tonight somebody was being taken out of their room in a wheelchair and I couldn’t access my room and was told to leave by hotel staff (which they didn’t have to tell me, I was about to turn around and look for a different route to go, hope the person in the wheelchair is healthy and safe! I do understand that this obviously was an emergency but don’t understand the rudeness of the staff).
The good things to mention (and there isn’t a lot):
- water pressure in the shower is great
- good area for shopping, lots of stores in walking distances, generally felt safe (outside the hotel)
UPDATE:
I expressed my concerns regarding the safety at this hotel to the front desk this morning.
They apologized for the incident and gave me a chocolate bar. A chocolate bar as making up for a stranger having access to my room at night.
if you think of staying here, don’t! I had to leave my bags in her room because the rooms were not ready. which is fine. What isn’t fine is when I come back my bags have been moved to a different room and the backpack has been taken off the suitcase and it’s slumped laying sideways on top while it was previously on top of the suitcase attached with the back strap. The handle sticks out 10 cm above it so the bag has purposely been taken off and thrown about. My laptop sits in a compartment that is padded and has a padded cover around it as as well as as a plastic cover. The plastic cover is no correct in two places when I approached the concierge about it, he went out back to speak to someone and when he came back, he requested to take my laptop out of my hands and to the back room out of my sight. When I told him that wasn’t happening, he said okay standby. Wait here… 10 minutes passed and he didn’t return, then through a side door I saw him on his phone when someone in reception opened the door he wasn’t actually doing anything about any of it.
when I got to the room, the TV said that something wasn’t right they would make it right but don’t bother, the floor is completely stained in all sorts of variations of Gray and Brown. The little city in the room is also dirty and stained and I have covered it with a towel. Some of the staff I know some of them are rude and no one seems to actually give a shit.
fingerprints of previous occupants on Windows doors and door handles.
I have to be here for work, but would discourage anyone from booking this.
This was my second stay at Holiday Inn High Street Kensington, and once again, I was truly impressed by the excellent service from the entire team.
From the moment we arrived, Miss Georgina at the front desk made us feel very welcome. She carefully explained the room type we had booked and kindly pointed out that we had accidentally reserved an accessible room package with breakfast and dinner included. She gave us the opportunity to review and change the room type before checking in, which we greatly appreciated. Thanks to her attentiveness, we avoided a booking mistake and were even able to check in early after a long journey. It was exactly what we needed after our tired journey.
When we arrived at our room, the housekeeping attendant on the sixth floor who assisted us was exceptionally kind and service-minded. He was always smiling, friendly, and repeatedly asked if there was anything else he could help us with. Whenever we needed additional amenities, he was more than happy to assist. Unfortunately, I did not get his name, but he was very tall and incredibly kind. His positive attitude and genuine hospitality left a lasting impression on us.
The dinner and bar team were also wonderful. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home throughout our stay. We would especially like to thank Mr. Shree and Mr. Richard. They remembered our preferences and paid attention to even the smallest details. Their thoughtful service made every dining experience enjoyable and personal.
At check-out, Miss Jess was extremely professional and efficient in resolving an issue regarding our dinner allowance. Our package included a £25 dinner allowance per person, so we should only have been charged for the amount exceeding that allowance. However, the full dinner bill had initially been charged. Miss Jess quickly investigated the matter and corrected it, ensuring that we only paid the difference. We were very grateful for her prompt assistance and problem-solving skills.
Overall, we had another fantastic stay and would happily recommend this hotel to anyone visiting London. The location is excellent, just a short walk from the Tube station, and the service is truly outstanding. Thank you to everyone at Holiday Inn High Street Kensington for making our stay so memorable.
We look forward returning again in the future.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at Holiday Inn High Street Kensington was honestly unacceptable.
From the moment I arrived, there were multiple maintenance and service issues with the room. The air conditioning/heating system was not working properly. I was told by reception that the system was old and that it would eventually warm up, so I left it running while I went to work. When I returned late at night, the room was freezing cold because the unit was only blowing cold air and the heating function clearly did not work.
I then tried to call reception, only to discover that the room telephone was also broken. I attempted to call the hotel externally and still could not get through properly. After waiting around 15 minutes, I eventually had to go downstairs in person and wait again at reception just to speak to someone. The only solution offered at nearly midnight was a small portable heater, and I was told maintenance would look at the issue the following morning.
The next day I reported everything again before leaving for work. When I returned that evening, absolutely nothing had been repaired. I asked to speak with a supervisor and, instead of apologising, I was told that I should have complained earlier so they could have moved me to another room — despite the fact that I had already reported the same problems several times. The lack of accountability and professionalism was shocking.
Unfortunately, the issues did not stop there:
- The room telephone did not work properly.
- Reception often did not answer calls even after the phone was eventually fixed.
- When I arrived, the television was literally lying on the desk without its stand installed.
- Several lights in the room malfunctioned and would flicker instead of operating normally.
- The final and most concerning issue happened while ironing clothes for work: the iron sparked, started smoking, and appeared to burn internally immediately after being plugged in. This was genuinely dangerous.
This hotel is in serious need of maintenance, safety checks, and much better customer service. I understand that problems can happen in any hotel, but the way these issues were handled — with poor communication, delays, and dismissive responses — was completely unacceptable for a Holiday Inn property, especially in such a prime London location.
Very disappointing experience overall.
