I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to warn other travelers about our experience at Best Western Maritime Inn.
We booked this hotel for 2 nights, but as soon as we entered our room, we were hit by a strong, pungent odor that smelled like a combination of mold and harsh chemicals. It was so overwhelming that staying in the room was simply not an option.
We immediately spoke with the front desk staff. They offered us two different rooms, but unfortunately both had the same terrible smell, if not worse.
At that point, we asked if we could cancel our reservation. The receptionist told us that it would not be a problem, but because we booked through a third-party company, we would need to request the cancellation through them.
We contacted the booking company right away (we spent about 30–40 minutes dealing with this while still at the hotel). They submitted a cancellation request to the hotel manager.
To our surprise, the hotel manager denied the cancellation request without providing any explanation, despite the situation and despite what the front desk had told us.
While we were inside the hotel, we both started experiencing headaches, nausea, and dizziness. I cannot say with certainty that these symptoms were caused by the strong odor, but the timing certainly made us uncomfortable enough to decide that we could not stay there any longer.
The front desk staff were polite, but ultimately they were unable to help beyond offering us two more rooms that had the same issue.
In the end, we left the hotel and lost approximately $500.
Final verdict: I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone. Based on our experience, it has earned a permanent place on my personal blacklist.
I sincerely hope management addresses whatever is causing that overwhelming smell before more guests have the same experience.
That was today. July 9-th, 2026!
