Nice rooms and decor, similar to many other best westerns I have been too

The room was just okay. The beds were quite firm, which I actually liked, but the pillows were way too soft for my taste. Breakfast was very similar to other Best Westerns across Alberta and BC—pretty standard. The absolute highlight was the pool and water slide! They are awesome; the kids were in there for four hours and had a blast.

The rooms were big and completely fine, but this hotel is definitely not set up well for traveling hockey teams. We booked a conference room for our team and parents, and the staff was not helpful at all when it came to managing it. They only have one room available for multiple traveling teams, which made things incredibly cramped and disorganized. On top of that, they forced our parent group out of the booked room right at 10 PM. Unlike other hotels that accommodate sports groups and let the parents socialize later, they were strict and not very welcoming. Overall, it's a small hotel that just isn't accommodating for hockey groups.
Very disappointing experience overall. The customer service from both the front desk staff and management was unprofessional, unhelpful, and lacking courtesy. Communication was poor, and the situation was not handled properly or respectfully. We travel frequently, but this was one of the worst experiences we have had. Definitely not the level of service we expected.
We arrived around midnight with 2 kids after a long drive, already exhausted and dealing with colds. I had even called earlier on May 12 to let the hotel know we would be arriving late (around 12–1 AM), and they said it was fine.
Unfortunately, when we entered Room 223, the smell was terrible!!! a very strong unpleasant odor, almost like cigarette smoke mixed with dirty or unchanged sheets. There were also visible stains on the bedsheets.
One of my kids is extremely sensitive to cigarette smells, and I explained this to the front desk agent during the overnight shift from May 12 to the morning of May 13. She barely seemed concerned. We ended up barely sleeping because our noses were hurting and we kept coughing throughout the night.
What shocked me most was that instead of offering to transfer us to another room, the only thing she offered was to spray something in the room. Seriously? Spraying over a strong smoke-like odor in a room with sick kids is not a solution.
When she told me there were no other rooms available, I asked why the website was still showing available rooms. Her response was, “it’s not guaranteed.” Honestly… then why are rooms appearing as available online in the first place?
It honestly made me wonder if we were treated this way because we booked using an employee rate. Because from the moment we raised concerns about the room, it felt like we were completely dismissed.
Never again. I will never deal with that lady, whatever her name is, who worked the overnight shift from May 12 to the morning of May 13. Very disappointing experience and terrible customer service, especially toward families traveling with children. yikes!
