I recently stayed at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel & Trade Center in Marlborough, MA and found it to be a solid hotel with several strengths, along with a few areas that could use improvement.
Check-in was quick and easy, and every staff member I interacted with was friendly, professional, and accommodating. I even stopped by the front desk later to request travel-size toiletries, and they were happy to help.
The lobby is large, open, and clean, and the hotel offers several amenities including an indoor pool, fitness center, arcade area, outdoor patio, and the on-site All Star Bar & Grill. One thing I did notice was that the common areas felt unusually warm during my stay. Fortunately, the guest room itself was comfortable thanks to its individual climate control unit.
The room was spacious and included a mini fridge, coffee maker, and reliable Wi-Fi. The bed was comfortable, I slept well, and the internet connection was excellent throughout my stay. The bathroom had good lighting and plenty of hot water, but the bathtub showed signs of wear and could use repair or replacement. Housekeeping also missed a few details, as there were a couple of areas that weren't thoroughly cleaned.
If you're traveling with pets, be aware that pets are allowed for a fee, but there is currently no designated pet relief area. Given the size of the property, I think adding one would be a worthwhile improvement.
The highlight of my stay was definitely the complimentary hot breakfast. There was a great selection of eggs, breakfast meats, hash browns, fruit, breads, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, coffee, and juice. Even more impressive was the breakfast staff. Food was constantly replenished, tables were cleaned quickly, and team members regularly checked on guests. The breakfast team provided some of the best service I experienced during my stay.
Checkout was simple and convenient, with options to check out either at the front desk or online.
Overall, this Best Western offers good value with comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast service, reliable Wi-Fi, and friendly staff. While I think there is room for improvement when it comes to housekeeping details, room maintenance, and climate control in the common areas, I would stay here again if I were visiting the area. It may not be my first choice, but it is a solid option for travelers looking for a hotel in Marlborough with free breakfast, an indoor pool, and professional customer service.
We stayed in Room 575 at Best Western and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience, especially considering we spent over $1,200 and had booked two consecutive nights.
First, the room was not very clean, and during our stay we actually found and had to kill a bedbug, which was extremely concerning.
The bigger issue was how our reservation situation was handled. Before the second night, the manager, Dawn Ryan, specifically confirmed that we would be able to remain in the same room for both nights. Based on that assurance, we left expecting everything had been arranged.
When we returned the next day, we were informed that someone had already entered the room, packed up our belongings, and assigned the room to another guest. This was despite having two bookings and being told we would not need to move.
When we questioned this and explained that we were relying on what had been promised, instead of trying to resolve the situation we were told that if we continued objecting, we might not be allowed to stay on the property at all.
Mistakes happen, but what was frustrating was the lack of communication, the handling of our personal belongings, and feeling pressured after raising a concern about something that had already been confirmed to us. Overall, this experience did not match what we expected for the amount we paid.
