  I’ve purchased macarons from Ladurée many times, and the macarons are always delicious. However, I was quite disappointed with my most recent experience at this Selfridges store. This was the first time I bought six macarons, and the staff automatically packed them in a box without asking me first. The box had no price displayed, and at no point did the staff mention that there would be an additional charge for it. Even when I was paying, they did not tell me the total amount clearly. It was only after I completed the payment that I realised the box alone cost an extra £7 — which was even more expensive than two macarons. As the macarons were just for my own personal consumption, I didn’t actually need the box. It felt very frustrating to be charged for something unnecessarily without being informed in advance.

  Visited Jan 30th at 8:58pm. Despite the store being listed as closing at 10:00pm, the staff member refused to process a standard order. Instead, we were asked whether we intended to buy a full box and when we did not, we were told that a single macaron could “just be given for free.” Refusing part of an order while offering a complimentary item as an alternative felt inconsistent with normal purchasing procedures and appeared to bypass standard store policy. This was communicated in a sarcastic and patronising manner rather than as a clear explanation of store policy, creating an uncomfortable and unprofessional experience.
